For some orthodontic problems, treatment begins when all the permanent teeth erupt. In other situations, waiting for the permanent teeth makes treatment more difficult. Two-phase orthodontic treatment is used then to achieve the best results. The first phase starts when baby teeth are present. Young patients with severe crowding, cross bites, impacted or protruding teeth benefit from early treatment. Beginning early can eliminate also the need for removal of permanent teeth.
