Excellent Food and selection... Great fine dining!!! more

Small, romantic, great wine list, wonderful food and service 2/19/2008

Yes, make a reservation and expect to pay for the experience. It is a good experience. Although I didn't order a bottle of wine, the selection is impressive. Wine by the glass; a little weak but drinkable. The food is marvelous. Portions were large, and the salad, simple and to the point. Went on a Saturday evening, seats 38 so it said in one publication I read. It is small, and romantic. Great service. I would definately go again. Pros: One of the best restaurants overall Cons: Not the greatest wine by the glass more

Disapointing... 12/14/2007

I want to post this review and express the enormous disappointment I experienced while dining in The Black Pearl. As every customer, I heard wonderful things about this restaurant (owned by the rudest and most money-hungry New Yorker) and convinced myself to take my wife and enjoy a beautiful evening. After struggling with TONY (the owner) to convice him I had a reservetion made weeks ago and being greeted by a drunk server (could smell alcohol from a mile away), we were finally served (hoping the experience would get better) our finely presented entrees. I can give credit for presentation; however the food tasted like a culinary experiment project. For every single bite of my meal I could taste the lack of experience and the lack of imagination in the matching of ingredients. Hate to sound snobby but when you pay around $30 for an entree the least you would expect is quality. In addition to the horrible taste that made you stop eating by your third bite, the temperature of my filet was so cold I could feel I was eating a fresh corpse. Overall experience was really disappointing. If you are searching for fine dining, a romantic, quiet and very personal experience in the Tampa Bay area I suggest Armani's Restaurant. Forget about spending all this money in a ""wannabee"" exclusive restaurant. more

Have money to burn, this is the place to go. Very expensive but good food and service. Great for a first date or entertaining a client. more

Romance and Excellent Cuisine 7/13/2007

After searching out several restaurants I stumbled across The Black Pearl. I assumed this was going to be the kind of restaurant you go to once in a life time. I admit I was wrong. The staff was very friendly and full of knowledge. The cuisine was the best I have ever had. I have dined from NY to LosAngeles. This Restaurant has quickly become my favorite. They have great selection of wine and a menu with daily features to match. Menu prices are very competitive. My wife and I now dine here almost weekly. I highly recomend The Black Pearl to anyone for any reason. Great for a romantic get away. The Creme Brulee is a must have! ! ! ! Their Duck is the best. They will even accomidate vegetarians. As my wife found out. Pros: Great cuisine. Easy to find location. Cons: Go on a week night when they are not so busy more

A True Pearl Indeed!! 7/6/2007

My first time at The Black Pearl was truly a magnificent one. The host and waiters were all very charming and friendly, very dedicated to our needs. The atmosphere and mood of the restaurant was both very soothing and elegant. I coud not imagine anyone having a bad experience at this establishment. The food is terrific, the service is top-notch, and we will definately be coming back in the near future! more

FEELS LIKE HOME 4/12/2007

From the moment I first walked into the Black Pearl, I felt like I was home. There was a closeness that I have only felt in Manhattan restaurants with the simple single door entry, being greeted immediately and walked to my ""regular"" table(it was only my second time there!), I felt a part of the family. The tables are adorned with a variety of depression glass and in the background I hear Bobby Darin singing . After a brief and colorful description of what the chef has created for this evening, me and my guest settle into a comfortable conversation of our shopping finds of the day, completely forgetting that we are in a restaurant! more

Lack of a friendly greening and no desire to accomidate guests requests, cast a Black Cloud over this former Pearl 2/4/2007

My wife and I frequent the top restaurants in and around the Tampa Bay area and in fact, all over the country. We were highly disappointed in our first visit to the Black Pearl in Dunedin. After driving an hour and a half to arrive 15 minutes early for a 6:00PM reservation, we found there were only 6 other diners seated at two tables in the restaurant. After waiting 5 minutes, one of the servers finally came up and without a ""good evening"" or any greeting at all, just asked my name. After showing him our name on a reservation sheet, he pointed to a table, literally, right at the door. This table had another 2-top table shoved up within 2 inches of the one they had selected for us. We asked for a table where the next couple would not be seated right beside us and asked for one of the other ""2-tops"" which were open. The server went in the back to summons the host, but returned after nearly 5 more minutes saying the one he had selected for us at the door was all they had available. We asked to speak with the host and after waiting further and standing in the door for 10-12 minutes now, the finally host came. With no greeting of any kind by him he just looked at us as if to say ""how dare you ask for another table"". We explained we did not wish to sit for a romantic dinner, right next to another couple, and asked him to please seat us at one of the other ""open"" 2-top tables. He simply stated seating was already layed out and that they had other reservations later and we could take the one at the door. He knew that it was our first visit to his restaurant and that we had driven all the way from eastern Hillsborough County. Obviously, none of that really mattered in fact, he wasn't friendly, appreciative or care whether we stayed for dinner or left. The Black Pearl had better hope their requlars will sustain their business because they certianly do not seen interested in obtaining new lloyal customers. He left a ""Black Cloud"" over what might have otherwise been a Pearl!. more

The Absolute Best in Dunedin & Beyond 10/30/2006

In our hunt for a good anniversary-dinner spot, we stumbled upon the unassuming Black Pearl of Dunedin and decided to give it a go. We could not have picked a better destination. Pros: top-notch food and service at respectable prices; romantic more

superior sophistication 7/15/2006

From the elegant atmosphere to the superior craftsmanship of every tantalizing en'tree, the Black Pearl has set the bar for the way dining should be! I, as any persons that have the privailage of being embraced by the Pearl will leave with a feeling of Zest! Get lost in quality, there is truly no other fine dining establishment like it! more

A sparkling gem 3/3/2005

The restaurant is intimate. The seafood and vegitarian entrees were wold class with subtle flavors and excellent presentation. The services was prompt, friendly, and warm. I highly recommend it for special night to share. Pros: Food, Intimate, Deserts more

A Rare Gem of a Restaurant 8/13/2002

One of the most innovative, creative culinary dining experiences, Black Pearl is an incredible find. Not one but two top chefs prepare imaginative dishes combining complex, diverse flavors with the freshest ingredients. Fish, seafood and grilled meats are specialties but be sure to save room for mouth-watering desserts. An extensive wine list rounds out what is a memorable dining experience. It's a tiny, intimate restaurant so reservations are recommended. Pros: Fine dining, small, intimate more
