The past 4 times we've had food from Bill Lee's - the dishes were wrong, bland and inedible! Food tends to be on the lukewarm side. Perhaps they are saving 60 year old food to s...

Very good food, have been going there for years! 1/25/2011

We've been going there for many, many years and when we take new people there, they like it just as much. You've probably good to start with the family style dinners. You get a taste of everything, usually five dishes, including appetizers, rice, noodles, etc. If you really want another particular dish, just order it a la carte. Very good portions, good value. We always like the service, too. I've been in the bar a few times (you can eat there too). Good drinks, not watered down. Nice atmosphere on both counts. Highly recommended! more

Love the fried shrimp and ribs 8/25/2008

If you haven't been, you have to try the Fried Shrimp and BBQ ribs. You can either order them as appetizers or part of the dinners. We usually get the dinners, with noodles, fried rice, etc. The Mongolian Beef is very tasty here! Love the food and the servers are consistent. more

Great food at great prices. A tradition here in Bakersfield 7/15/2007

Our family has tried lots of restaurants over the years and even today with all the new restaurants cropping up, we always seem to return to Bill Lee's restaurant regularly. Why? Well, the food is simply very tasty. And for a family or even a group of two or four, the prices are STILL very reasonable in this day and age, which makes it a good deal. As far as the food, I would recommend that you order the 'family style' dinners if you go with a group of people who are unsure of what they might want to order. This is because these dinners usually have 5 very tasty items on there and are brought to the table all together for everybody to share. That way, you can taste a little bit of everything. My recommendation is the house special, where you get some very tasty chow mein noodles, chicken sticks with sweet and sour sauce, fried shrimp (Yummy!, my fave), BBQ spareribs (very unique too) and fried rice. And it is a good amount of food. If you want to try something more, go ahead and order an appetizer beforehand, but you may not need it, because you'll get some tasty egg flower soup and hot tea with your dinners. If you chose to order a la carte, I would recommend the Kung Pao Chicken, the oyster beef or the cashew chicken. There are a lot of other items on the menu that have some unique flavors and I have tried a lot of restaurants. You can look up their menu online and get some interesting info too (http://www.billlees.com). To be honest, we have been coming here for years, more like decades and it is a tradition for a lot of people here in Bakersfield. (I think they've been open since the 1930s, so there is a bit of tradition in the restaurant as well). Bill Lee's is recommended and very much worth the trip! more

Bill Lee's Bamboo Chopsticks Chinese Restaurant 11/25/2006

I have been going to Bill Lee's since forever it seems like. My parents moved us to Bakersfield, CA in 1971 and sometimes they would bring home some of those cartons of rice and chow mein and other goodies like those yummy crispy noodles! Once in a great while we would go to the restaurant to eat but usually it was take-out. I didn't go to Bill Lee's on a regular basis and eat inside the restaurant until my daughter was a toddler, about 26 years ago. One of the best friends that I've ever had would take my daughter and I to Bill Lee's about once a month, sometimes twice a month. We would just sit and eat and visit, sometimes for a couple of hours. My daughter would sit in her high chair eating her sweet and sour pineapple chicken sticks and her rice and her crispy noodles. She must have enjoyed them because she certainly got them all over her face and clothes! Over the years I have tried different menu items at Bill Lee's but I always come back to my absolute favorites: Chicken fried rice Chicken Chow Mein with crispy noodles Sweet and sour boneless pineapple chicken Broccoli beef Those are the foods that I generally stick to whenever I go to Bill Lee's. I usually go with other people and we order everything ala carte and share it. I have found that the dinners don't work for me because I don't eat pork and substitutions cost more for each change. Plus I don't always like the choices you get on a dinner, they are too restrictive for me so, ala carte ordering it is! The egg flower soup is also a tasty menu item. It comes with the meals but not with the ala carte items. It does cost extra if you want it with your ala carte meal and you can order either a cup or a bowl. They bring you a bowl of oyster crackers to go with your soup too. They are tasty and the kids love them. A pot of hot tea comes with whatever you order at Bill Lee's and it's very good. When you order take-out from Bill Lee's, just ask for tea and they will give you the dry tea leaves and you can make your own pot at home. Prices at Bill Lee's are comparable to the other restaurants in town. For myself and my family, we like Bill Lee's and think that they have some of the best Chinese food in Bakersfield. I have tried different Chinese restaurants in town but I always come back to Bill Lee's. more

Great service 3/22/2006

Bill Lee's has the best Chinese food in Bakersfield, and the delivery crew has always been nice the few times we have had it delievered. It's never taken very long to get here. The last time they said it would take an hour to an hour and a half and it only took 30 minutes (of course we live really close! lol). If you haven't tried this, what are you waiting for? Best chicken fried rice in town! more
