Benji's French Basque Restaurant

I have been eating at Benji's for many years. This Basque food has an upscale French influence that may be the reason that the other reviews didn't score it as high. I have always (since twenty years ago when they were on Union?) received awesome service and wonderful food. The lettuce is mixed (not your typical Basque iceberg) and the sauces are amazing! Don't forget to order a souffle (they are the ending to a perfect meal!). Servers remind me of the French (if you annoy them you'll be ignored - but if you work with them - they'll come through for you - and the food is worth it! I'll be taking my staff from Los Angeles here this June for an "end of the year" celebration - it's worth the drive! more

We chose Benji's as a place for our family and friends to meet up for the midweek dinner. I made reservations for 15 and thought all was well. Unfortunately when my guests arrived before me they were told, not asked, that they wouldn't be seated until half the party was there. They put us in a back room where it was hot. We were hardly checked on to see that we did need our drinks refilled. The only thing good on the menu were the green beans in the "set up". Every entre comes with sauce on it, even the frog legs... weird! When it came time to pay the large bill the waitress was so rude, she ended up throwing a calculator, a pen, and pad at us and said, "Here if you can take it back there and figure it out if you want." Wow, great service huh? Food sucked, service sucked. We will not be returning. We will stick with Wool-growers from now on. more

My sister and her husband were so excited to try Benji's, they arrived grinning and hands entwined. By the time they finished arguing about the menu choices, the entire restaurant was watching a great sparring match. They eventually left, unhappy and unfed with fists tightened and each other in a headlock! Unless you are a serious lover of Basque food, save your time, money, and marriage and DON'T GO!! However, if you are trying to ditch someone, bring 'em here and order the tongue appetizer!\r \r P.S. They only get a star because they're making me do it. more

I have tried this place and it was ok but I wasn't blown away. I felt like there wasn't much on the menu that I found appealing. If you really enjoy basque food you might like it more than me. more

Benji's basque food was my first time. They are known for their start up-which is a couple of side dishes, but not brought out together, one at a time, like salad and soups. Then onto the main course. This is alot of food. It is an experience people should try. more

I went here for a party type thing awhile back and I was not happy really with the food. I dont think it was that good, but some people loved it so that is only my opinion. The service was ok, not the best. They let our drinks get empty and we were sitting there for awhile without a drink. more
