Beach Bum's Tanning Resort

This tanning salon gets one star because the beds work. Honestly that is the only positive thing I can say about it... pretty sad. When I first went in and got pricing I wasn't that impressed but I recogized that pricing in OC is going to be higher than LA because of supply and demand. I decided to get a membership anyway, I chose the cheapest package since I only use the tanning salon as a way to get a base tan for the summer. I purchased tanning lotion and then the girl told me I had to buy goggles.... really? I've never known a tanning salon to make you buy goggles, but I did it anyway. The first few times I went in everything was fine (the girl was always working) then one day I went in and there was a man working (a little older looking, maybe the owner), he told me the bed I normally use (cheapest bed) was not available. He said I could upgrade for $5, I said fine since I was pressed for time. I didn't notice a huge difference from the bed, but anyway. A few times later when he was working same thing happened, but this time I told him I would wait. Fve minutes later no one comes out of either of the rooms I usually used and he says oh I made a mistake the room is available. Really? He didn't know there wasn't anyone in the salon? Come on... after that I decided yup this place bites and I will NEVER come back. So I tell him that I want to cancel my membership and he says oh we just debited your account we can't cancel until next month just tell us on the 11th. So next month on the 11th I go in to cancel and he says call this number. When I called the number they told me I need to write a letter to give 30 day notice, but because it is too close to my debit day I won't be able to cancel until next month. He could have told me that and saved me the hassle, but I think he just wanted to squeeze another month of dues out of me, how pathetic. If you care anything about customer service don't go here! more

This was the worst experience I've ever had with a tanning salon!! I've used tanning salons for many years and have been to several different salons...most of them were pretty good. The owners of Beach Bums are never there and impossible to get a hold of when u need information on like HOW DO I CANCEL? I finally found out that I needed a letter to cancel and a letter from my wifes doctor to show proof that she has a medical condition and can no longer tan...I provided the the doctors note and letter to cancel. They never canclled our account and continued to debt our bank account!! I know times are hard, but lets not make it too obvious that your business is not doing so well and take advantage of good people. The part that bothers me the most is that after they received the doctors note (letter) showing she has a medical condition we never got a call or nothing...this just shows the true character of the people running this place! Far as the Salon goes...their regular beds are terrible and you can tell they never change the bulbs, no towels, no wipes, nowhere to hang your clothes, the headphones for the stereo don't even work, they don't have regular doors that completly shut so you might feel a bit unconfortable getting undressed...the list goes on! Far as the positive reveiws they must be from relatives and good friends. I can't beleive I have to give this place a one star for a rating in order to post this! Cons: too many to list! more

I'm not a genius, but it seems to me it's pretty obvious that the writer of this comment is either the owner or an employee. They were trying to sell the place in every sentence!\r I agree with the first comment. This place is NOT worth the money. I have always been a frequent tanner. I came from San Diego, where there is very prestigious salons, and that's what I am used to. I called around looking for a salon in this area, and when I heard the prices, I thought ok, great! Prices about the same of what I am used to paying.. It MUST be a nice, upperscale salon.. Well, that's a negative. I walked in & was very surprised. It looks 1/2 thrown together. Not at all inviting or relaxing. Honestly looks kind of cheap. I was surprised that there is not even actual doors for the rooms!.. Is that even legal?!.. It's like those folding/shutter doors with a little latch. weird in my opinion. Who wants to get completely nude behind a rinky-dink door that has a big crack inbetween. The doors don't meet completely. I was also surprised that when I went to tan, (I tanned in the highest level bed) there wasn't anything offered in the room. No towels! No eyewear! No body spray or wipes! I mean maybe I'm used to these things b/c I was a member of a nice, high level salon so it was expected. But, this place claims to be upperscale, they charge alot, but in reality you get nothing in return! \r How do you not offer towels for the rooms!..lol I have done the Mystic as well. They only offer clear solution, not the bronze as well. & My biggest pet pieve was that The room is waaay to small to fit that machine. literally, you have no room to move. there is maybe 3 feet between the machine and the door to the room. Oh, and its the same type of doors.lol With Mystic you are paying a lot of money to use this machine, so you'd think there'd be sooome perks, extra things in there, right?!... NOPE!. try again. They do give you a towel for Mystic. Whooptee-dooo.. One small, hard rinky dink towel. No where to hang your clothes, No baby wipes to wipes to the lotion off of your hands, No bobby pins for your hair, etc.\r It was NOT a good experience to say the least.\r Usually, tanning salons ALWAYS offer a towel in each room & a pair of goggles which they clean & dis-infect. Usually in Mystic rooms they have a stack of towels, for obvious reasons. U can use as many as you need to wipe the solution off, to lay one on the ground to step on, etc. they always have baby wipes, bobby pins, Some type of body spray, a clothes hanger..etc. & I've been to alot of places. I'm not trying to be unreasonable, I mean I've been to some salons that give you a nice big comfy robe when you are going to use the bed & mystic so you dont have to re-dress inbetween, I've been to some that offer bottles of water.. Or at least a water dispenser.. I wasnt expecting those extra things, but I was expecting to get what I pay for. & the normal stuff that all places offer, (with cheaper prices) Oh, and lastly, they don't even have toilet seat covers!. lol. Wow. Does it hurt to accomodate your customers?!.. I mean geesh.. \r On a good note, I can say one thing. The guy that helped me was REALLY nice. He did give me a tour. He was friendly, down to earth, talkative, etc. He had a great personality and was very helpful. I've never had the opportunity to meet the girls, but hearing the experience from the other customer, I'm glad it worked that way.\r So, basically. My suggestions are as follows:\r If you want to get what you pay for, then I'd recommend going elsewhere.\r \r I think if the place wants to stay in business, they really need to up their game &&& lower their prices. They are NOT worth it.\r Kinda sucked b/c I was happy when I found them, being soo close to my home. This is the worst tanning salon I've been to. The workers (or owners) are not at all friendly, sometimes even rude. The guy that's there isn't bad, but the girl with the blond hair is never friendly. When I asked how to cancel my account, the girl gave me attitude and told me I needed to call a phone number. After calling the number (thinking I could cancel over the phone) the billing company told me I had to write a letter in order to cancel. She could have at least told me the right way to cancel. The beds are OK, not anything special from other tanning salons. I'm not sure how often they change their bulbs in the regular beds though. I never get any color from the regular beds. I do like the stand up bed, it gives lots of color. This tanning salon is definitely nothing special and too overpriced for what they offer. I would go elsewhere. Well I'm a tanning freak and I have been too all salons in my area till I came across this gem of a salon, They have this amazing bed that is a 15 minute bed, they called it High Pressure, that I was able to go in for the full 15 min!! for my first visit!! and I got so dark with no burning! I only tried that one bed but I will be back for sure, the staff is also totally friendly( not stuck up like other salons i've been too)and gave me a tour of their salon while also explaining each of the beds, the salon is huge with I think 14 beds and not the little crappy beds every salon usually has, next visit I will try their spray booth ,I was amazed that it is actually voice guided, I always wanted to use a spray tan but was afraid too.Regarding price, I noticed they have packages as low as 30 dollars a month, that is amazing because when you walk in the salon the decor indicates a very high dollar salon, I might note that they do mostly have only the really flashy big tanning units but now I see why, who wants to lay in those little sweat boxes anyways, my bed actually had a built in A/C with aroma therapy and cool off misting!!! and I think all of their beds are like that!!I guess if your a Wal-Mart type person like the previous reviewer then stay at Wal-Mart salons LOL! That way I can have Beach Bum's for myself!! more

Has really brought themselves to a 5 star level. It did take some time, but they really accomplished a lot. Great place to tan. more

i love to go to tanning salons but ultimately i want what i pay for -a nice tan!,well first off they are really clean and then they have all kinds of tanning equipment including a spray tan booth, I used their stand up and was amazed at the tan i got in only 8 min,definitely a member for life!! i've been tanning everywhere and recently discovered Beach Bum's Tanning Resort, and at first was put off because they are more expensive but after the girls took the time to show me all of the different tanning equipment I tanned in the wildest bed with aroma and cool off spray and all i can say is i never got so much tan in one session!! i decided to go back and try their base beds and got the same result,needless to say i signed up,oh and i have never seen such a clean and cute salon!!! Pros: new tanning beds, very clean, no appointment necess Cons: a little pricey more
