Awakened Yoga Studio

Awakened Yoga is very clean, has friendly staff and great instructors. The classes are varied with something for everyone. The practice space does not have mirrors, which I'm thankful for as I find them distracting. A budding and mature practice values how the posture feels over what it looks like. more

Disappointing. For a studio to be catering to beginners, I don't see how anyone can come away with a good practice. The classes are by and large slow paced for beginners and yet the main studio has NO mirrors that would greatly benefit everyone to practice correct poses. I don't understand how you can run a studio with no mirrors. No one corrects you and not being able to see yourself just shows very little emphasis on improving your practice and was a poor decision on the studio's part to not have. If you don't have anyone correcting students, you at least need to put up some mirrors so that those of us who want to improve can do so. There isn't much options out here in Sugar Land and I'm still looking around for a decent place. The search continues =/ more

I've been an avid yogi for 10 years now and I've been to many studios and tried out many instructors. I have to say that this studio is rather small with awkward beams in the center of the room and they don't even have mirrors! There are much better studios in the Houston area than in this place in Sugar Land, how unfortunate for Sugar Land residents! more

I've practiced yoga on and off for several years in the Sugar Land area. I took a meditation seminar in September which led to taking a yoga class (buy 1, get 1 free for new students) and was hooked. I take the Iyengar classes lead by Sharon Mariani. I have a high stress job and the class has made a huge impact in my life. The classes focus on stretching and holding poses with an emphasis on breathing techniques. This has helped me focus more on myself and the things I can change in life and not be so stressed about the people and things I cannot. Sharon is a great teacher and is in tune with each student at whatever level of practice they are at. I go to the 6am-7am Monday and Wednesday class, which is a great way to start the day, and the Sunday morning class. I've never been a morning exercise person but this I can do. I highly recommend the Monday and Wednesday 6am class- we are a great group and we are always glad to have new people join us. I can see a difference in myself physically and mentally which is ... several years in the Sugar Land area. There are heated classes for those that are in to that, kids yoga and babysitting provided for several class times. The location is very easy to access with easy parking at the back entrance. Being completely new to yoga I decided to sign up to the 'Beginners Yoga' package at 'Awakened Yoga' in Sugar Land in August of this year - it was one of the best things that I have done! more

I am grateful every day that Awakened yoga has joined the Sugar Land community. Grace has brought a wonderful studio with a great variety of yoga, with different levels, and has dedicated this studio to the art and devotion of teaching yoga. There are a variety of teachers, and ALL are great. They are as unique as their yoga practice and I have learned something from each of them, and enjoy the variety of their styles, energy, and flow. There is only one way to find out how amazing Awakened is, and that is by trying it, let it soak in, and keep trying it for at least 30 days, so that your heart, mind, body and soul can truly benefit from it. Yoga is more than physical, but there is no doubt that what you get is a physical athletic ""work out"". With and open mind and heart, you owe it to yourself. I was so happy to see Awakened Yoga! When I saw the sign it was coming to Sugarland, I couldn't have been more excited! And, it did not disappoint. It's a wonderful place to practice yoga! The front desk staff and teachers are all so warm and kind. Never a dull moment! I highly recommend this studio!! more

I started yoga for the first time at Awakened Yoga in March, and it has been a life changing experience. Many of the same popular teachers in Houston teach here, too. There are a wide variety of classes, so it's easy to find classes and teachers that suit you - heated vinyasa, Iyengar, Ashtanga, gentle Hatha, and beginner classes. I have become much stronger through my practice here, and it's the ideal place for me to shed the stress of my busy days after work. I highly recommend this studio! more

There's something for everyone here! I've been here since they opened and will not leave! I was reading some of the reviews below and I'm not sure these people gave it a chance! \r \r I am a yogi that really likes sweaty, athletic yoga classes and they definitely deliver at Awakened. I love all of their heated vinyasa classes. I've been doing yoga for 10+ years and was practicing in town until they opened. The teachers are many of the same teachers at the studios in town.\r \r They also have beginner and gentle classes for people who are just beginning. I've taken a few of them and still get a decent work out - just have to use my own practice some to do it.\r \r The studio is HUGE compared to many studios I've been to - also very clean and well maintained. It can get crowded at times but that just shows how good the yoga is here.\r \r Plus a really cool store - nice gifts and high quality yoga clothes too. I would recommend this place for sure. more

I tried out the place using a groupon deal. I have to agree with the other reviewer below that I also tried the instructors there and found for the most part lackluster. more

\r I have to agree with some of the statements written by the other reviewers. I don't think it's worth purchasing a package here.\r \r I regrettably bought one and had to try really hard to find classes worth using them on. There aren't that many good classes I would be interested in taking.\r \r One of the instructors I tried before felt more like an intern than a certified yoga instructor. I've been doing yoga for many years now and I felt I wasted my money taking that class!\r more

I'm not an guru yogini here but this place has much to improve on. I found routines very inconsistant and slow for a lack of a better word, and not worth the time, $$$, or effort of making it out here. I don't recommend this spot and seriously question who these die hard fans are that rave about this place on the reviews. You walk in, throw down your mat, and leave. Apathy is so rampant here, not very inviting at all. \r \r My piece of advice. Don't do it! more

Not a very good place to practice or learn yoga. Most of the instructors seem to be just starting out and the inattentiveness in class and out of class isn't good. I've been to better places and this one seems to be a little watered down. more

I just started going to Awakened Yoga and love it there. I had never taken a yoga class before and was a little apprehensive. They were very helpful up front and answered all my questions as well as reassured me that I could handle the class. The instructors have been great and the workout is fabulous. I leave feeling good inside and out. \r I would highly recommend this to everyone whether they are experienced or first time yogis like me. There are several different kinds of classes and they also have a great pilates class. I can't wait to try them all! more

I have been going to Awakened Yoga Studio for about a year now, and I absolutely love it! The teachers are all so wonderful and caring. They really want to see each student grow their yoga practice as much as possible and have fun while doing so. I really like how this studio offers classes for all levels and at all times of the day. There isn't an excuse NOT to go to this place! A great studio for advanced yogis and new yogis alike.\r \r I also LOVE their store front. The merchandise at Awakened Yoga is FABULOUS. The clothes are very durable, cute, and easy to do yoga in. They're great for yoga and any other type of workouts. The staff is always friendly, helpful, and willing to answer any questions. \r \r All in all...Awakened Yoga Studio is the best yoga studio I have ever gone to. I would definitely recommend Awakened Yoga to anybody looking for a great yoga studio. more

I was very satisfied with my experience at the Awakened Yoga Studio. Immediately upon walking in, I was greeted by the friendly saleswoman and by the wonderful smells inside! I bought merchandise (yoga pants and shirts) there several months ago and am still just as happy with my purchases as I was the day I got them. Comfortable, made well and cute! The staff there are always very amiable and helpful to me while browsing the selection of yoga-related items. Plain and simple, I feel very pleasant after leaving and enjoy the time I spend there. more

I have tried several yoga studios in the southwest Houston area and this is BY FAR the best one. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They can answer any questions you might have. The instructors are great as well. They will help you through each class on any moves you need further instruction with. I would recommend this studio to anyone! more

I've been attending classes at Awakened Yoga for a few months now, and I have to say, I love this studio! I've practiced at other studios around Houston, and I'm happy to say I think I've found my yoga home. All of the teachers are fantastic and really know their stuff! The staff is helpful and friendly and I love the little shop up front! They've also done a great job keeping up with the schedule and offering a variety of classes for different types. I also took the beginners series which they have held a few times since I started, and it was a great intro to yoga that helped me deepen my practice even more! Thanks Awakened Yoga! more

I saw this lady coming out of class early one evening while I was waiting for someone. She looked really overheated and exhausted and she didn't look well at all. The staff members saw how she was and ignored her. I thought that someone would make sure that she was at least okay but nobody did so I went over to check and helped her to sit down before she passed out. It took a little while but she started feeling better and said she was okay. I felt that the staff memebers should've helped out and not been busy surfing the net or chatting with other guests and noticed this before I did and at least taken some action. I thought that it was strange that nobody seemed to care. Someone should have been paying more attention =( I don't think the owner did a good job training staff, this should have never happened. more
