Pretty much everyone in Tucson has been to Austin's at least once. They have been in service since 1959 and are pretty well known around here. They are famous for their ice cream, which is provided with a great variety. The often have season ice cream like pumpkin. They are a full-service restaurant with booth seating throughout. There is a separate counter with bar stools to sit, which is sometimes the only choice when the restaurant is full. The decor is a little on the old side and the wait staff are sometimes hard to get a hold of. Busy times are hard to find a table and there isn't really anywhere to sit and wait for one to become available. Besides that, you still don't want to miss the experience of having Austin's food and ice cream. The food is typical American fair, with the greasy spoon feel, but really good. Our favorites include the Turkey Melt and my husband loves the soups of the day. Top those off with huge ice cream sundae that will make your mouth drop open.
