Giovanna diffidently has some great skill. She knows what she's doing. I just wish that she had been a little more considerate about personal preference. I returned after several successful appointments and was in the process of growing out my short hair. I like soft and volume type hair cuts, Giovanna from past cuts knew this. But the last time I went in the cut I left with was very textured, and was a nice cut for a magazine, but it wasn't what I was comfortable with. I felt she was a little insensitive when I told her I wasn't sure about the cut and her response was that she knew I like my hair clean and straight but this was the new big look and I just had to change my perspective. I had my hair re-cut by another salon and was a little upset because all my hair growth had to be cut to take out the layers. I will say that Atelier salon did give me my money back without a fight and even though I didn't care for my hair cut everyone else liked it. So like I said she does great hair just make sure to take the time to discuss what you want and you should be fine. more

Let the girls do whatever they recommend. Best cut and color ever! Appts are tough to come by so book early. Friendly and trendy! Awesome! more

I've been in Iowa for 4 years now and it has taken me all of this time to find Meredith. I am a natural medium to dark brunette and am lightly graying. I have allowed many highlights and lowlights to be worked into my hair. Nothing ever looked natural and I have been dealing constantly with the damage. How could there be so much difference between colorists? Meredith left me a natural looking healthy brown. I look attractive again! From what she explained of her background, before moving to DSM, she worked in the high-end Buckhead area of Atlanta; a very demanding set of women there! I am so happy now. more

Last minute, great service!\r \r I was in Des Moines for the Gold Star Horse Show and needed my hair done. I called at 10 minutes to 8 p.m. expecting to set an appt for later in the week. Giovanna & Meredith were booked so they conversed and decided to have me come right down. Not only did I get AWESOME hair (cut & color), I was treated like royalty, not a last minute pain in the.......! Giovanna gave me a great hair cut, Meredith did some very cool color and I walked out of there totally happy and satisfied with the services I got. \r \r They went way above and beyond the kind of service and treament I expected as a possible 1X or 1X per year customer. If I get to go back for another horse show (waaaaay up north there in IA), I'll call before I leave home and set an appt to see them again! \r \r Loving the Bumble and Bumble products too. more

And I don't like salons in general. Stylists rarely listen, and on top of that, they tend to force invasive conversations about my personal life. My only experience with Atelier is with Meredith, a colorist. She not only listened but took quite a bit of time clarifying my desires to make sure she understood. I was skeptical of the lowlights she suggested with my highlights, but the result was beautiful. I've only had one visit with her, but she earned my trust. An added benefit was that she caught on quickly that I didn't want to talk much or answer irrelevant questions. Thus, not only was the hair color what I wanted, but so was the overall experience. The salon is small and a wee bit crowded, but it was so much more pleasant than an enormous fast food type of salon. The prices are just a little more than most upper scale salons in the Des Moines area, but Meredith's expertise was well worth the price. I'll be back. more

After going to the same stylist for 7 yrs. I decided to try Giovanna and Meredith at Alelier / hairspace. So glad I did! I came out with the most spectacular color and cut I have ever had. The exceptional staff treated me as if I had been a client for years. I feel confident in returning to Atelier for years to come. more

I had high hopes. The first haircut was great. I called to make another appointment and the lady I had before wasn't there anymore. I made the appointment with Giovanna. I was on time and the receptionist told me Giovanna would be with me shortly. I waited a 1/2 hour and she finally showed up with no apology as to why she was late. Just a thank you for waiting. I went ahead with the haircut as I had maternity pictures scheduled later that day and wanted my hair to look really good. The haircut was $50 and I ended up coming home in tears (my poor husband). My hair looked the same as when i woke up that morning. I ended up rescheduling my photos as I didn't have time to redo my hair. I am not going back. more

I have been looking for the right hair salon since I moved here a year ago. I am so thankful that a friend recommended Atelier. Meredith and Giovanna are SO talented, professional and friendly. When I moved back to Iowa after being away for 25 years, I wanted to get the great styles and cuts that I was getting before leaving. My niece recommended Giovanna and all I can say is: Giovanna rocks! I have given Giovanna free access to style and cut my hair. As a result, I have been getting superb hair styles. Since my hair is so thick, good haircuts are required if I want to easily style my hair; as well as, look good until the next haircut. Also, by being totally gray, a perfect haircut/style is necessary, in order to look more youthful and age appropriate. It is so refreshing to know I can be confident that I will get beautiful long lasting hairstyles with Giovanna! Pros: Great Style and Great Cut more

Wow, I've been looking for a salon like this for a long long time. We all look through magazines and dream we could find a stylist as talented as the ones the models/celebrities use, but know they pay a fortune for their chair time. But, you can go downtown Des Moines and actually receive a haircut fit for an A-list celebrity. Giovanna really knows what she's doing! I brought in a bunch of pictures and she went through each and everyone of them with me....we decided together what would work best and then she went over BEFORE she took a scissors to my hair what she was going to do. She made sure I was comfortable with everything first! My hair looks like the picture I brought in....I'm so excited. She truly works magic with her scissors. She gave me exactly what I wanted and took the time to even style it like the photo. She did want to cut just a little more off, but when I hesistated she didn't get frustrated with me....instead she worked around it and made it WORK! I moved to Des Moines 3 years ago and had the hardest time finding a hair dresser. Then, someone recommended I try Tiffany at Atelier. I have to admit that I didn't have very high hopes when I went in. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Tiffany was GREAT! She listen to what I wanted and we worked together to find the right style for me. I recently moved to the St. Louis area and actually drove back to get my hair cut by Tiffany! more

I would so recommend using Tiffany Mally! I told her I had a big event coming up and she talked with me in length about what I wanted to do with my hair. She listened and offered suggestions and then together we decided what to do with not only the style but also the color.\r \r It was an awesome experience and I am still going to Tiffany! what a team!!! Meredith took some much time to understand what i wanted with my color. I went to the salon in hopes that somebody could tell me what looks good. I always wanted to be a red head but always walked out with it to brown or to orange. Meredith got the color right. 1st time. Wow! I had heard great things about this salon, so I decided to give it a shot. After some so-so cuts/colors at a WDM salon, I was ready for a change. I am SO glad I went!! Meredith gave me the most thorough color consultation I have ever had! She was very knowlegable!! My color looks amazing-I've had so many compliments!!! Tiffany cut/styled my hair, all while explaining what she was doing, and how I could create the same look at home. She was awesome! Hands down, best cut/color I have ever had!! The atmosphere is great, they are so friendly!! I can't say enough about the experience-I will definitely be back! Pros: Great Atmosphere, Knowlegable and Friendly Cons: None! more

I have to admit that it was a bit of a struggle to get me to step foot in a fancy salon! I used to think they were overpriced and that great clips could do the same for less. BOY WAS I WRONG!!! I went to Atelier on a friend's recommendation, and I was blown away! Each girl specializes in either cutting or coloring, so they really are experts. They have a talent that you just don't see anywhere else, at least in the Des Moines area. I have been there twice now, and each time I walked away with a completely different, unique, and amazing look! The atmosphere is so friendly and upscale - it reminded me of a French boudoire. I felt pampered and special by all the girls. Michele spent so much more time and effort on my color than anyone else ever has to get it just perfect. And Tiffany made my cut and style look totally glam! It was so much more than a hair cut! I felt like a movie star! And best of all, Tiffany shows you how to get the look yourself at home. The girls really focus on giving you something realistic that you can maintain and afford but that also looks stunning. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SALON FOR PERSONAL ATTENTION AND SERVICE!!! Atelier Hairspace is by far the best salon in the Des Moines area, it is the total package, great stylists, fabulous products, a good location and a cool but inviting atmosphere! Meredith colored my hair about a month ago and not only did it turn out PERFECTLY I had an amazing time with her. Meredith is such a sweet and talented stylist; we just laughed and had a great time! While I have not actually had services with the other girls I have seen them work and they are also a lot of fun and equally talented. The atmosphere of the salon is also fabulous; it has the feel of a New York style salon but with a warm and welcoming feel. Having been a stylist for 3 years myself I am very picky about where I go to get my hair done, but Atelier surpassed every expectation I had! I just move to Iowa and got real BAD HAIR COLOR!! I found this salon on city search. I liked how small and personal it was. \r Meredith Did my color and gave me exactly what I wanted. I was tried of going to big Salons that don't listen to you.\r I heard of Atelier. I just got my hair cut and color and LOVVVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEE it.!!!\r They listen to what I wanted.\r FINALLY!!!!.\r Someone got my blonde hair color RIGHT! Thank YOU MEREDITH!!!
