Ashcrow Landscape Design

Same experience as lucek, probably worse because I have no redesigned yard. But I have a wallet several THOUSAND dollars empty. I'm embarrassed to quote the actual amount of money he conned out of me. I only give 1 star rating because you can't give 0. Skipped on meetings, late if he actually showed up...never answered phone and rarely answered emails. You only here from him when he needs payment, otherwise you won't hear from him for weeks to months. Just as with Lucek's review, he talked big, had a good proposal, but never delivered and basically vanished. I have a sneaking suspicion all the positive reviews were written by friends or colleagues of his.. ""... it was like I hired a scientist."" haha, yeah right!.. Also, the business address listed on City Search is wrong. I'm guessing that's his old apartment. Based on the contract I signed with him the correct address is listed on Yelp. If you Google map the correct address it's a neighborhood, not an office. I don't think he has an actual office. Whenever I asked to come down to the office to see progress he always had an excuse for me not to go. I remember one excuse he gave for disappearing was that he was arrested for a protest. Which is fine and admirable. However, he failed to mention the real reason he disappeared. He was held an additional 10 days because he had outstanding warrants in his name. You can Google it, the info is public domain. You can still work with him if you like, but be warned. I wouldn't recommend it. more

Wow! This designer is extremely talented. It's a year later and my yard looks beautiful! I am saving so much money in water bills, gardeners, and having to buy new plants every year. I love being able to send him emails for questions because he always has a cheery attitude and great new suggestions. I can't wait to have him do my sister's place in San Francisco! more

Before I hired Ashcrow Design my backyard was a mess. Weeds, a demanding lawn, ugly trees, and everything was ugly. Lawrence, the head designer, worked with me personally. I was so happy with his creativity and his commitment to giving me a green design for my house. This year I walk outside to fragrant sages, beautiful trees, and I only have to water my vegetable gardens. I couldn't be happier with his commitment to his clients and his amazing sense of design. Talked a good talk but repeatedly failed meetings, broke promises, and covered up with a string of transparent untruths that became more and more ludicrous over time. Hard to understand how our experience was so different from other reviewers. Designer may have lost interest in the work and just didn't know how to get out of it. Espoused lofty ideals and ethical standards but disappointed on the most basic aspects of professional behavior ! Pros: Enthusiastic and knowledgable Cons: Weak on follow through. more

Ashcrow Design worked well with our budget from the very beginning. I was worried when he showed us how small most of the plants were going to be in our garden, but a year later our garden looks very full and lush. I love how he used native california plants (who have names I cannot prounounce) and how he hide a local sculptor to design us a custom statue in our backyard. Our house is on a hill and all our neighbors have just iceplant on their slope, while we have a glorious hillside of color! We're very happy with everything Ashcrow Design did for our yard. Our favorite feature, the meditative garden where we practice our yoga with friends on the weekends.. it's so peaceful. Thank you Ashcrow Design! Lawrence was hired by us in 2006 to design a container garden for our courtyard, a shade garden around our front entryway, an english cottage garden in the backyard, and a place to grow fruit trees. His work ethic was amazing. He communicated with us every step of the way, and was great a solving problems. Our patio is now gorgeous, with tall cactus and other desert plants that bloom in the spring and fall. He also designed some retaining walls so we could grow shade trees on our patio, and they're doing amazing. Our backyard is a feast of color, smells, and beauty. We always get compliments on visitors to our garden. We love summer when our fruit trees are full of fruit, and my husband is grateful for Lawrence visiting a few times to show him how to prune the trees each year, and how to treat them organically. He designed this beautiful walkway, finished in colored stone that works well off his plant choices, with plenty of room for our table and chairs. The irrigation system is great, I never notice it, but my plants are always healthy. I like how he installed solar lights around the backyard so we can walk around at light without having to worry about a light switch. All in all, we're very happy. Pros: Beautiful garden! Amazing designer, great attention to detail. I hired Lawrence a few years ago and I felt like I gained a friend who just happens to be a master gardener. He measured out my sorry old yard, front and back, and spent a lot of time investigating the soil, temperature, and climate... it was like I hired a scientist. Then he called me up and sent me over THREE different design ideas. I was floored! Eventually I picked one design that had trees lining walkways all over my backyard, both ornamental and fruit trees, with all sorts of flowers everywhere. He even put in a lawn for my dogs, nieces, and nephews to play in. Then he set up the irrigation, drainage, and lighting plan. As our landscaper worked on the design, Lawrence was there, making sure questions were answered, letting me know what to expect. In no time my barren wasteland of a backyard was a beautiful series of gardens that flowed seamless from each other. I was a little scared of buying a half acre lot, but now I feel like I own my own personal Huntington Library. If you ever want an amazing design, this is the guy you need to hire! Pros: Great attention to detail, complete design, excellent communication Cons: That he didn't get to design the house too, I bet it would of been awesome more
