If you love Italian food, do not miss 5/19/2012

If you love Italian food, do not miss this one. My husband and I were visiting Richmond from North Carolina last week-end and we were looking for a good Italian Restaurant that was NOT a chain. We decided to overlook the bad reviews since there were so many good ones. We definitely made the right decision. We didn't expect fast service on a busy Friday but we were getting a little irritated when they seated a couple at the booth behind us while we were eating our salad. They ordered, ate their pizza, left, and they seated two women at that booth --- we still didn't have our spaghetti. Same for a table near us. Four people were seated after us, all had sandwiches and left and there was a second seating while we were still waiting. I believe our order was lost in the kitchen, they were very busy with a girl's soccer team. I will have to say, the food was worth the wait. The salad was very fresh and it was full of good things, meat and cheese. The spaghetti was the best I have had in a restaurant since I was a teen and worked at a ""real Italian"" restaurant in Ohio. I can't wait to go back to Richmond to eat there again. The portions are large, we should have split an order of spaghetti and just ordered an extra salad. Oh well, we put the leftovers in the cooler and we get to have it again tomorrow. Ignore the bad reviews -- this place is awesome. more

NEVER AGAIN 3/31/2012

\r Second and most important I walked in there a few weeks ago to order a pizza to take out, as I was at the counter one of there workers that were making the pizza spread the sauce with there HANDS. No rubber gloves nothing, I walked out. more

Missing Angelo's 2/19/2012

I am from Long Island and have lived many places, and you know that great pizza is going to be a must. We fell in love with Angelo's and their pizza is fantastic! My wife is still trying to recreate their Tiramisu now that we are down south. I could not believe that there were negative reviews and then I read them. Sounds like competition or someone who really needs a hug. Anyone who has met the owners know that Angelo and Josephine make you instantly feel like family, and would never serve anything like what was described. more

Really? 10/21/2011

I've been going to Angelo's for fifteen years and I have never once had a single problem. They have the best new your style pizza in town, fantastic pasta dishes using authentic sauces and the best tiramisu I've ever had. Their white clam sauce is unbelievable. \r \r Angelo and Josephine are beautiful, authentic Italians with a wonderful family helping the business. \r \r Never ever seen anything wrong with the food and the complaint about turning the tables over is obviously someone who doesn't realize that restaurants are a business. Education for you: if you are not turning over tables every half hour, you're losing money unless the occupants are drinking heavily. I assume that wasn't the case with your daughter's sport banquet. Have a little consideration for the owners and the other patrons. more

We love Angelo's 3/8/2011

My family has been customers of angelo's for a long time now, and we can't even believe the bad reviews on here. My guess there's 2 sides to every story, and the bad reviews about the pizza don't even make any sense. Being from up north, this is the only place in virginia that taste like real new york style pizza. im pretty sure they even have plaques on the wall they they've won best pizza and best tiramisu (WHICH IS PHENOMENAL) from Richmond magazine. we actually celebrated angelo's 20th anniversary with the owners and other regular customers last year which was such a blast! try it your self, im sure theyll win your taste buds and your hearts, as they did ours. more

EAT AT ANGELOS! 3/4/2011

Do yourselves a favor and ignore any negative posts from below. There is a reason that my family has been coming here for over ten years, and it's because it's not only good food it's good people. Angelo and Josephine are the sweetest people and they have such GREAT Italian food. Personally, as a paying customer I appreciate anyone encouraging the SLOTHS (of multiple middle school basketball team tables to move to one table instead of occupying multiple tables) a FAVOR when the bill has been paid and most of the party has left! Try the eggplant! It's SO good! more

I've Had Better Frozen Pizzas 2/28/2011

Just beacuse your Italian you shouldnt open an Italian Restaurant. That should describe Angelos Italian Pizza.\r \r The food wasnt even eatible. Pizza crust was burnt, lettuce in salad looked weeks old. There was no service. You have to ask for a refill. \r \r An the owner, wow. I wouldnt let him wash dishes in a restaurant. A sorry excuse for a owner/manager. \r \r \r \r They will never see a dime of my money. more

""LEAVE ....WE HAVE OTHER CUSTOMERS AT THE DOOR..."" 2/26/2011

My family went to Angelo's on 2/27/11 ...worst experience ever. My daughter's sport banquet was held here tonight. We were finishing eating our food, we have 6 children, the owner(wife) came up to us and told my husband and our family ""You have 10 minutes and you guys need to leave, we have other customers at the door that need your table."" \r We could not believe how rude this lady was. Our bill was $56.00, we were paying customers, and she wanted us to get up, before we finish eating, because she wanted to give other customers to our table. \r As if this wasnt bad enough, the other owner(husband), comes out and says to us ""his wife didnt say that we had leave( I suppose he knows, he probably heard from the kitchen) but HE will, and then told us he would physically through us out, I said,"" this was ridiculous I was going to make a complaint"" ...he said, ""I don't care, you can make a complaint to the US ARMY if you want to."" \r To top the whole night off....We were charged a $9.00 tip automatically to our credit card. They gave us no choice!!!\r Don't go to this restaurant unless you want to be treated horribly...My children witnessed the most terrible behavior. We came as a Christian organization for a sport banquet...to be treated like dirt! more

BUGS IN THE SALAD!!! BUG'S IN THE SALAD!!! 11/15/2010

I went there on 11/15 and there were aphids crawling all over our salads. This shows that they were not washing the salad properly. This could be a salmonella risk. The manager refused to come by our table to apologize. They offered to comp the $8 appetizer, but when I said I didn't want anything anymore the slimy manager REFUSED TO COMP ANYTHING. DO NOT GO. AVOID AVOID. THERE WERE BUGS IN THE SALAD AND THEY MADE LITTLE ATTEMPT TO MAKE IT RIGHT. more

We're done here 5/3/2010

My family and I first visited Angelo's in the spring of 2009. My wife had a sandwich (a cheesesteak, IIRC), and I had the baked spaghetti with meat sauce. My wife's meal was quite good, but the spaghetti was disappointing. The sauce was very thin, very sweet, and the meat reminded me of hot dog chili. If Chef Boyardee made baked spaghetti, it would be just like this.\r \r Over the past year, we ordered takeout a few times and dined in once. We stuck with sandwiches and pizza and were generally satisfied. Sandwiches were consistently good, and the pizza was fine (not great, but not disappointing).\r \r Last night, we ate at Angelo's for the last time. For starters, we were treated to an unidentified substance on some of the napkins and one set of silverware that the hostess provided; it looked like someone had dripped an oreo-cookie milkshake over things and left it to dry. We then noticed that the entire tabletop was sticky, as if the finish was coming up. Whatever it was, it wouldn't wipe off. The experience only went downhill when the food arrived. The NY-style pizza was unbelievably salty. This cannot be overstated. It was easily the saltiest ""Italian"" food I've ever tasted, and it probably topped many fast food chains' french fries in sodium content. To round things out, our server was intermittently available at best. She tried, but she was clearly flustered even though she seemed to have only a few tables.\r \r We're done with Angelo's. In the future, we'll stick with A N.Y. Slice for great cheesesteaks and pizza, and we'll head to A Taste of Italy for the experience that Angelo's tries -- and fails -- to provide. Pros: Decent sandwiches Cons: Bad pasta, salty pizza, inconsistent service & cleanliness more

Best pizza in Richmond 1/31/2009

Don't listen to the last review. The owner is awesome, the pizza is fantastic (especially the sicilian) and the service is fine. The pastas and salads are great. You cannot go wrong with Angelo's. more

Real Thin Crust Pizza 2/28/2008

We've been regulars at Angelo's since we moved here in their first months of operation. Our children have grown up eating their pizza (love the thin crust and lots of toppings )and pasta (our favorites are the eggplant parmesan or the specials). The caprese salad is wonderful as are the calamari and mussels. THe hot rolls are a family favorite. Nice selections of beer and wine, we rarely order the dessert, but when we do we are glad we did. \r \r The owners and staff know our family, our friends, and all our neighbors. It's a family owned and run business - Angelo and his wife Josephine work along with their daughters, and her sisters and a few non family members. It's a clean, comfortable, convenient, good service and a good value trusty- standby of a restaurant. When Angelo began the half price pizza and pasta nights, the business exploded - so, it can get a little crowded sometimes. It's worth the wait - sit in the bar or outside on the patio and have a glass of wine to relax while you wait. When you are in a big hurry, call ahead for pick up (no delivery). The rush is ALWAYS over by 7:30 - so when in doubt, go early or late and you'll be served quickly and cheerfully. You'd have to be pretty demanding to not like this place!\r \r We have never been disappointed with our dinner - and consider it to be as good a meal as some of the much more expensive Italian fancier restaurants. Go once to try it, go twice to try something else, the third time you will be a regular and recognize the other diners. We know when we eat here, we will run into at least 3 other families we know and have a great meal. Pros: great menu, great food, good service, value Cons: sometimes crowded, more

Best pizza anywhere ever!! 6/2/2007

i now live out of state but i miss this place so much! it by far has the best pizza i've ever had in my life! great friendly service, great prices and THE BEST PIZZA!!!!!!!!! Pros: EVERYTHING Cons: NOTHING more

Good Pizza... 12/2/2005

Visited Angelo's three times, mostly for pizza. The pizza is really good, thin crust style. Ask your waitress as they will make it as thin as you want. My husband liked the chicken parmesan and although I thought it was good I didn't think it was great. As for decor and ambiance, it's just an average neighborhood Italian pizza place. However, our serice all three times was outstanding, we ended up with the same lovely young lady who was just fantastic! Overall a very good pizza place for a nice neighborhood meal! Pros: Pizza more
