We were long time regulars at the Alpine Village, and were more than happy to find the owners had taken over the Alpine Retreat. Yes, much of the same menu we so enjoyed, and wonderful service as always. Looking at the menu now, I'm wondering if it's possible to get a smaller burger on the pub fare menu; a half-pounder is just too big. In fact, we've stopped going to another restaurant because we can no longer get a smaller burger there. That may not be a problem here, though, since we'd probably be going for dinner anyway given the distance to get there. I can't wait to order the Shrimp Provencale again, one of my very favorites! Very charming atmosphere; we will be back! more

The new owners have done an outstanding job! The Jaeger Schnitzel is the best around. For a Friday fish fry the pan-fried perch is really delicious. The prices are reasonable and we have never had bad service. Every time we have been there the owners are there as well. We give this restaurant an A+. Dennis and Reeta Huber more

Charming atmosphere, great steaks 2/5/2006

My husband and I have been coming to the Alpine for more than 30 years. We have always loved the ambience, coziness, service and great food. It's truly a ""retreat"", nestled in the beautiful Holy Hill area, with an atmosphere that makes you really think you're in the Alps somewhere. A couple caveats: it's a little pricey, and, this restaurant has been in the same family for many years. Their patrons have been coming there for many years. Sometimes they all get caught up in chit-chatting with the ""regulars"". If you as a ""newbie"" think you're being ignored, say something! Pros: atmosphere, food, location more

Dinner for 4 6/5/2005

Our friends had mention to us about a cute little restaurant as we were touring the Holy Hill area, we are all from Mequon. After finding the restaurant nestled in the hill. We were starving and decided to take a chance without a reservation and stop for dinner. We were greeted promptly and seated immediately. We thought we were off to a great dinner, however, our steaks were at best average. We had another disappontment, the waitstaff could have cared less if we ""wanted any service"" throughout our entire dinner, they were congregated elsewhere because we could hear talking, we learned latter they were conversing with a couple of bar patrons. When leaving thought the bar area, they all chimed in to say ""Good Bye"" as if they meant it. We were left with the feeling that we had intruded on their personal ""water cooler time"". Average food. No service. Pros: Nice setting, cozy Cons: Bad Service, below or average food more
