Review content:
Given the clutter of sushi restaurants and "joints" in the Upper East Side, most fail to satisfy this sushi junkie. Ota Ya is the one consistent exception at reasonable prices - sushi-lly speaking. The restaurant decor gives you the feeling of eating your sushi in a more luxurious ambiance, rather than being pressed up next to your neighbors at the next table. The appetizers I don't give much thought to, with the exception of the house salad which is a cut above the rest. But the reason I'm here - sushi. And their sushi is great. Whether served in a special roll (Spicy King and the Goldfish Roll are personal favorites) or laid out in a sashimi platter, I'm never disappointed. Their sashimi deluxe platter is one of the most plentiful, containing such a variety of generously, beautifully tender cuts of fish, I'm usually feeling stuffed by the end. Now who can say that about sushi? Though if you do have room for dessert, there's this one dessert which I can't describe perfectly, but you'll know what I mean if you go. It's the Ota Ya version of a Mexican fried ice cream dish. And it's great.
