Review content:
An unpretentious type of place, Tujague's has been around for a while... 150 years as a matter of fact. In New Orleans, only Antoine's has been around longer and the regulars don't need to see a menu. As a matter of fact, some dishes on the menu have been around about as long as the place has been open. While they have recently diversified their menu a bit, I would still go with the Shrimp Remoulade and Beef Brisket in Creole Sauce served with horseradish. They serve New Orleans typically great bread for sopping that last bit of sauce. The corn soup with crab is an interesting soothing combination. Top it off with a piece of the pecan loaded pie and a couple of strong coffee with chicory. While Tujague's serves really good food, there is something oddly comforting about both the food and the environment.
The bar has the feel of a neighborhood watering hole where the barkeep either knows you or wants to and elbows are rubbed regularly with friends, both old and new.
