Review content:
We found this little gem in a converted garage at the eastern end of Latrobe. Owned by a mother-son team and a total family affair, Aroma Italiano serves excellent Italian cuisine at low prices. Dining room is nothing fancy, but all of the food is homemade and delicious (including bread, rolls, even the roasted peppers on sandwiches). For some reason, Westmoreland County has a lot of Italian restaurants that serve a rather sweet tomato sauce. Aroma Italiano's sauce is the real deal, reminiscent of my Nonna's--essence of tomato with undertones of with meat. Meatballs are well-seasoned and pasta is served piping hot. Try the cotoletta -- a thinly pounded chicken breast, breaded and sauteed, served on a homemade bun with roasted red and yellow peppers. Baked goods are wonderful--we've had the raisin cookies, rum cake and graham cracker pie.
Dean and I laugh after we enjoy a great meal, and the bill is $13. Seems like a crime!
