I stayed at Hotel Shelley for 4 days end of April 2012 and when I wanted to rent a car the front desk person said they have a local company tie up which was really good rate. He called the car company and said the economy car was booked and they will come pick me up. So insisted on speaking to the car company. When I spoke to them they said it was going to be $60 all paid including taxes and they will come pick me up tomorrow. Next day the guy comes and said it would be higher since they didnâ??t have few other taxes in there. So I agreed to pay the other taxes even after them saying it was included and my total was $75.99. They also said it was their policy to have $600 as deposit to pay of any unpaid tolls and traffic light infractions. And this typically refunded within a week. I call them after a week and they said they need more time to get the reports from traffic department and it would be refunded by May 11. I assumed that the refund happened and didnâ??t check my account statement. On May 28th I checked my account and the money were still not refunded so I called the Car Rental Company directly to ask for refund. They said I had 12 Sun Pass toll violations and I should have called earlier now there will be fines from Sun Pass. The lady called Claudia emailed me the list of toll violations (but no amounts) and said it would cost $100 if I tried to pay Sun Pass directly and that she could take care of it with a penalty fee of $25 per tool violation. I said let me talk to Sun Pass and call her back. I called Sun Pass and they said the car plate that I had rented did not have any toll violations and it appeared that the even if there were any toll violations that may have been paid by the car company already. Sun Pass person also said that the car rental was using that as a way to charge me penalty fee for every toll violation that they had already paid. Sun Pass person also said the trip that I made between Miami Beach and Key West would incur maximum toll of $10-12 both ways, so the car rental company was clearly up to some mischief. So I called Claudia back on May 30th and she is not there some other dude is there and said I will have Claudia call you back. No call after that. This is clearly their toll scam and way to charge $600 to the customers. And shame on Hotel Shelley to recommend this rental car company to their customer. I looked up the review of the car company and there were other who had similar $600 Fraud as well. Do not rent cars from Miami Beach Rent a Car or Miami Ocean Car Rental or Mayumis Enterprise Inc. - they are all one company and they are Fraud Company. I hope this helped some future traveler.
