Review content:
Winterthur Museum and Library is a simply breathtaking estate on Rt. 52/Kennett Pike in Greenville, DE. This charming country home of Henry Francis Dupont has been since turned into a showcase of the owner's impressive collection of furniture and artwork. Dupont created a sort of life-sized doll house and filled the nine floors with the world's finest examples of craftsmanship, artisanship, and beauty. Dupont also arranged for there always to be something blooming in his many gardens, so you'll never be out of luck. My favorite time to visit this estate is during azalea season, when Azalea Woods are in full bloom. The Fairy Garden is also not to be missed; it is by far the best and more creatively inspired children's garden and natural outdoor play area I've ever seen. There is a café in the visitors' center, a coffee shop near the main house, and several gift shops. You can easily spend an entire day here and barely scratch the surface. The price of admission is quite steep, though; for $20, you can tour the grounds and get a one-hour guided tour through some of the rooms of the house. With more than 10 different tours to choose from, there's always a reason to return to Winterthur.
