I grew up in Somerville and my birthday cake always came from Cara Dona's. Remember the Italian Rum cake with the slivered colored nuts on the side? I am in FL now and cannot find Italian pastry here or even a bakery shop if you can believe it. \r

My heart shattered when I read that Cara Dona's no longer exists.\r

Does anyone remember the old Apollo Bakery outlet on a little side street off Broadway near Tucks and the bake shop there? How about T. C.s bakery on Pearl Street in Somerville. I remember the outlet where you could get a bag of slightly squooshed things like TWINS which were the most wonderful chocolate cakes made like a tart shape with cream in the middle and sprinkled with choclate jimmies I think it may have been..........and TCs for her fig squares. \r

Guess I am really homesick huh? I've been here for awhile now and will probably stay down here in Central FL.........love the weather, miss my old home that is gone forever
