I normally never write reviews, but my experience was so awful I had to let everyone know. Judging from the last review, Rafael leaving the salon is very upsetting. I had an appointment with him last week for a keratin treatment, and when I got there they told me he no longer worked there. I should have canceled and left when I had the chance. I see from reviews below that other people were as put off as I was that they didn't let us know in advance that Rafael was no longer at the salon. But since I made the trip there, and needed to get my hair done in a hurry for an event, I decided (against my better judgment) to let Jane do it. First, let me start by saying that I had gone to Rafael a few times and loved the treatment. He also always did a great trim with the treatment. He was also sweet to offer to run out to pick up coffee for me next door, since the salon doesn't offer it. And he was just so personable and professional, it was such a joy to talk with him when I was getting my treatments done. And unfortunately this time with Jane was the complete opposite experience. She was chewing gum and I think that's not very attractive or professional. But I think she was chewing gum to mask the awful cigarette breath she had -- which wasn't really working. The stench of the mix of cigarettes and gum made me want to throw up. She also didn't make a great attempt at conversation. As for the actual keratin treatment, I don't think she has much experience doing it. It didn't come out as good as Rafaels at all, and I'm wondering whether it will last as long. She also kind of ruined my haircut when she trimmed it. I've been to the salon many times, and I was told that Rafael was the only one doing it at the time. So I guess she was doing it for his clients after he left, or they fired him. Unfortunately, they shouldn't practice on clients what they don't know how to do without letting us know that's what their doing (and offer a deep discount for using us for practice as customary at all good salons). At least that's that's my opinion. I would have considered continuing going there for color with Mario (who is awesome), but the salon allowing her to attempt providing a service she's not experienced at lost the them a client. Sorry Mario if you are reading this. I can't go back there. . Thanks lisajameson3 for letting us know where Rafael will be. He is the best. I passed by 136 Montague today, and the windows are still covered up. I hope the salon opens soon. I know better to be patient this time. Even though I won't look my best, I'll gladly wait until Rafael opens his salon. I always know what I'm getting with him -- beautiful hair every time, and professional and personalized service. Cons: Lack of Professionalism
