This restaurant would be maybe worth 3 stars (out of 5) if every item on the menu was $5 cheaper. The salads were priced at $12 and $13 and were nothing special. The tomato salad consisted of one SMALL beefsteak (not even heirloom) tomato and was covered with rather woody stems of an unidentifiable herb. The soup was a tastless matzo ball soup and likewise was way too expensive. The entrees were barely adequate--the scallops were overcooked, the pork chop was cooked to medium but still had the consistency of shoe leather, the pork schnitzel was melt in your mouth tender, but the only flavor coming across was that of the grease it had been fried in. The $8 ""market sides"" of seasonal vegetables were delicious, but one needed a microscope to see them--barely 4 bites each. Likewise the desserts, priced at $12 each were an insult. They were better than average, but again, barely 4 bites, and at $3 a bite, they needed to be extraordinary--and they weren't. Service was good--they kept filling our water glasses every five seconds--which considering they charge $1 per person for TAP water (ok so it was ""purified"" big deal) they had better. Our waiter, however, knew details about the food, but kept having to ask everyone to repeat what they were ordering. Yes, the ambience is nice, but none of it was even remotely worth the outrageous prices. Save your money and go to any of the hundreds of other restaurants in the city that are just as good if not much better for less than half the cost. Pros: ok atmosphere Cons: most everything else.
