Review content:
My family dined on a week day in the early afternoon. We went to Ted's based on a recommendation from a friend who said it was the best Mexican food to be had in Oklahoma. It was a busy place and quite noisy - not a place to have a pleasant conversation with friends or family. The service was outstanding and though the tables were close, there was still plenty of room to get around. Our group had a variety of dishes including both beef and chicken. The serving sizes were just right - nobody cleaned their plate and we did take home doggie bags. After being seated we were given bowls of salsa and queso cheese dip. Unlike other restaurants we were each given our own bowls and so did not need to share - double dipping anyone?. Along with the dips we were served a free bowl of pickled veggies - very tasty and not too hot. We also had to containers of hot flour tortilla's that were very tasty. The queso had a distinct flavor that I could not place at first. It was tasty, unlike many of the watered down sickly yellow looking stuff that you get from most Mexican restaurants in Oklahoma. The salsa was very good. We asked for and got some hot salsa - most green, hot salsa served in other restaurants are hot but without taste. This stuff had both tast and heat. The servers kept the chips and dips coming without our having to ask. We found the distinct flavor of the queso cheese dip was also in the rice, chicken and beef entrees but it stronger in the beef. We finally identified the taste as cumin. I asked the waitress to verify and she came back and confirmed our guess. The cumin was a bit much in the beef and quite frankly tasted really good to me but the other members of my party found it to be too overpowering and in fact blamed a general blah feeling later on to the cumin. My grandson refused to eat his beef enchilada because of the cumin taste. Ted's bent over backwards to make sure he was happy. They offered chicken strips but he settled for another enchilada without the chili - just cheese. He ate it but he was not particularly pleased with it either. The prices at Ted's are a little high. Everything on the lunch menu was $8.95 with ""add an item"" selections for about $3.99. I added a tamale to my burrito plate. Very good. I have eaten Mexican food all over the world, and having grown up in California I have a definete idea of what is great and what is not. I would rate Ted's at 75 on a 100 scale. However, so far it is the best I have had in Oklahoma. My family would tell you otherwise and they said that they would not go back with me if I ever decided to eat there again. All things considered, I would rather dine at Panco's Mexican Buffet and make everyone in my party happy.
