Looking to try a new place I sought out Verde on a whim with a friend last night and must say I was very impressed. Though somewhat tricky to find - it is in Erwin Square just past Ninth St. if you are coming from Duke campus - Verde offers a nice, low key, romantic dining experience in an attractive European-inspired cafe setting. We were seated promptly and started with a nice glass of Pinot Noir. The menu is on the lighter side (hot/cold sandwiches, salads, soups) and I went with the roasted turkey sandwich for $7. The host was very friendly and attentive and gave us a complimentary 2nd glass of wine, and the bill was under $30. I will go back to Verde and if you are looking to try a new place it is worth the trip.
