Let me just say that Caboose is a great place. It's local, it's family-run, and the food is awesome. On Saturdays we hit the Del Ray farmers' market early in the morning and then go to Caboose for breakfast. I dig the fact that the coffee is brewed strong, there are several choices, and refills are free -- grab 'em as you need 'em. I like their bagel with lox, cream cheese, capers and onions. A simple breakfast done well. I also love their feta spinach breakfast wrap with scrambled eggs. It's well-seasoned, salty, and gooey. Although this dish is typically on-point, sometimes the eggs are a bit overdone. At dinner, the Ehtiopian food is beyond good. I haven't tried any of their regular menu items -- I figured when you can get Ethiopian, why bother with a salad or a burger? There are few places in the burbs to dine on authentic Ethiopian, so I like to take advantage of Caboose's native offerings. Don't be scared off if you've never tried it. It's kind of like Moroccan food met Indian food, had a passionate affair, and produced a gorgeous baby. The owners hail from Ethiopia, so you figure they know what they're doing -- and they do. I prefer the vegan sampler obviously, which comes with 5 vegan selections, a salad, and plenty of delicious, tangy, spongy injera (the little vegan dollops include a daal-like lentil dish, a reeeally spicy lentil, nicely cooked greens with chunks of garlic, green beans and carrots, and potatoes and cabbage -- they are all outstanding). To eat the food as it's intended, tear a small piece of ingera and pinch up some of the desired good. Also, I discovered last week... Tuesday evenings they offer a special of any two entrees, Ethiopian included, plus a bottle of wine (you can choose either the red or the white they're offering) for 30 bucks! A really awesome deal. Wine and beer are fairly affordable, too: any bottle of wine is $20, a deal depending on where you're from and where you eat regularly. And the selection is decent.
