I bought a big diamond purchase from a ""wholesaler,"" then saw that Mednikow listed their diamonds on the web. What a shock to see a similar stone for less $$. I visited & met the owner (female in her thirties, but it is an old family firm). She said they price their diamonds to compete with internet wholesalers & people are always shocked. She buys from the diamond cutters who buy direct from DeBeers, & that is as many middle men as any retailer can cut out. She was reluctant to mount someone else's stone, but she finally agreed. Their designer created a mounting just for me. They had all the premium brands like Nova and Michael Beaudry but their handmade mountings were the same quality. Their approach is a little clinical (they all have jewelry diplomas), but after the hard sell at Solomon I was happy.
