I know people on 28th Street miss Taqueria Nueve, but this may be one of the best new additions to the Portland restaurant scene in recent memory. Tapas, or small plates, for Cajun/Creole food. Usually when you go to a Southern style restaurant you can only get one thing because there's just too much food. Here you can get 2-3 things and feel totally comforted. I've been twice since they opened a few weeks ago, and everything has been outstanding. The place is a little upscale looking, but the prices were nothing but cheap. They definitely tried to make you feel special without making you pay for it. The food was great, too. Some stuff was pretty classic, the gumbo, crawfish etoufee, and amazing bread pudding. But alot of the dishes were twists on the traditionals like jambalaya that was a little creamy like risotto but with all of the same great flavors. The best was the caramelized hanger steak and the duck confit with sweet potato waffle. Man I will be going back for those again, soon. The service was attentive, but relaxed and they have a pretty cool drink list, too. I hope this place makes it, because this town needs more restaurants to be this creative without breaking the bank. Pros: food, service, ambience and price Cons: parking can be a little tough
