Businiess name:  Mignon Steak House

Review content:
I was really excited to try Mignon after moving to Rutherford, based on all the rave reviews I'd seen and how cute the place looks from the street. I have to say, my first experience there last night will be my last. The dining room stunk of an incredibly foul bathroom odor. We should have left right then and there. We were then presented with complementary bread served with steak tartare. Usually I would be pleased with this, but there's something disconcerting about eating raw beef in a room that smells like an overflowed toilet. My boyfriend's duo of filet and short ribs was decent, not great. The mashed potato and sauteed spinach sides were pretty good. My scallops entree was completely inedible. I don't know what on earth the sauce was intended to be, but it is possible it smelled worse than the poop air encompassing the restaurant. The menu doesn't elaborate on how anything is served. It simply says ""broiled scallops"" or ""broiled shrimp."" My boyfriend confirmed that I should not eat the food and I moved my plate away from me to get away from the smell. Our waitress was pretty unfriendly and rude, but I wouldn't be happy if I had to work amid sewage stench either so I'll give her a pass. The bottom line is that the decor is the only thing this place has going for it and that cannot overcome the bad odors, bad food, and bad service. I sincerely hope that we dined there on an off night and they were having temporary plumbing issues. I can't imagine that Mignon would have so many positive reviews if this were a regular occurrence. My advice to anyone who does choose to dine here would be to stick to the beef and avoid the seafood at all costs.
