SHADY. Please reconsider. I'm not into writing negative reviews about places as I find when one calms down one writes a more level headed review. With Don Kennedy Real Estate however, I consider it my civic duty to warn people of this company. If you think I'm being harsh, go to their 'office' in the U district and see if this is a company you want to do business with. If that doesn't worry you (it should have worried me) see how you like doing business with an invisible landlord who never answers their phone. When my girlfriend and I looked at the apartment, there were a few things wrong, but nothing major; needed paint, a new lightbulb here and there, a damaged closet door, carpet stains, but nothing out of the ordinary. We were promised 'all this will be fixed' and thought nothing of it. I should have gone with my gut instinct and never signed the application. A week before move in, they demanded an extra $200 dollars deposit.Thinking this was for new carpet, I didn't mind that much. Looking back, I feel they were clearly unhappy with the fact I had negotiated the rent with the resident manager. But of course, I cannot prove this. When we moved in, the apartment had been vacuumed and that appeared to be it. And for a year, so it went, a broken water heater, thin walls revealing a noisy neighbor to our left (and a landlord who never answered the phone), leaking ceiling in one bedroom, arbitrary warnings about late rent when the rent wasn't even due... Long story short, it was a year from hell. We are now out of this contract and this property in Magnolia and free to warn others. Maybe you will have a different experience, I hope you do. The place had a great view, appeared nice on the outside...but if you get that sinking feeling in your gut when you look at a property managed by these people, go with it. I wish I had. I turned down a nicer place because of $50 in rent. My bad.
