Review content:
I recently took my car to the Monro Muffler and Brake, on 1529 Oregon Pike, for a state inspection. I used to live in York, PA and I never had problems with the Monro Muffler and Brake, on 3651 East Market Street, so I figured I would take my car to the Oregon Pike location. NEVER AGAIN. After telling me I needed new front struts and two front tires to pass inspection I became suspicious when my bill totaled $1300. I was told that since my Saturn (2007 Aura XE) was no longer in production, that my struts were so expensive because they were "hard to come by."Also, I was told by Ray Kassim, the manager, that "I wasn't charged labor for the struts" apparently because my bill was so high and I guess they were attempting to be gracious. I was subsequently told before I left that I should "make sure I have the correct speed rated tires on my car" or it could become a problem. So I started to do research on speed rating and tires. My car is speed rated an S. The tires he put on were speed rated W. The tires he put on were ultra high performance tires, which my car doesn't need. So not only were the incorrect speed rated tires put on, but they overcharged me for them ($283.99 a piece). I could not find one tire store in a 20 mile radius that was charging that much for these specific tires ( Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position). Not even Tirerack is charging such an outrageous price for those tires. I also looked into these "hard to come by struts" Ray was talking about. Guess what I found? Every place that sells struts has the ones "that are so hard to come by" in their inventory. I went to Sears Auto and asked them how much it would run me to put the exact same struts (Sensatrac product number 72200) on my car. Surprise!!!!!. It came out less to get the struts put on and my wheels aligned at Sears then Ray charged me for just struts. Remember, he told me that he didn't charge me for labor to put on my struts, yet they magically totaled $611.98 without labor and that price didn't even include the $72.00 wheel alignment. Feeling duped after finding out all this info, I decided to return the tires (I had 30 days luckily). I had 4 new tires, speed rated T, put on my car for the price that Ray charged me for two tires. When I took them back he fed me some line about how he "checked the door on my car and it is definitely speed rated for W." I dare anyone who knows somebody with a Saturn Aura to look on their drivers side door and find where it says Tire Speed Rating: W. You can't. You know why? Because it is supposed to have S speed rated tires. It says right on the manufacturers sticker. Ray came off as rude and made me feel like I had no clue what I was talking about. I did get the money charged for the tires taken off my bill, but that's not the moral of the story. The moral of the story is that if you ever have to take your car to the Monro Muffler and Brakes on 1529 Oregon Pike for a state inspection, and Ray calls you on the phone or tells you in person that you need X,Y, and Z done before you can pass inspection please question him first. As a matter of fact if you have to take your car there for anything I would question if what Ray is telling you is actually truthful, because you know, telling the truth to your customers is "so hard to come by."
