My parents just came by my office after visiting Dr. Somers for my 81-year old Mom's diabetic wound. He was busy trimming the dead skin off Mom's foot and asking Dad how he was caring for it. He told him he was using an antibiotic ointment, which was blessed by Mom's PCP, and shared other ways he was treating her wound, and the doctor asked my Dad "Do you want to do this" in an inflammatory way. Dad, of course told him no, but the doctor had other things to say in such a manner as to upset my Dad who went on to tell him he couldn't talk to him that way. Please understand, that my Mother is very frail, has dementia, is in a wheel chair and can't hear well. Dad has been her care giver for many years now and does an excellent job. Mom knew they were having words, but couldn't hear what was being said. The next thing that happened was that the doctor slapped a bandage on Mom's foot and walked out the door without another word. They didn't know the visit was over. Dad put Mom back in her wheelchair and opened the door and asked if they were done. They were told yes, but by now my Mom is in tears because of how Dad was abused. This doctor never told them how to treat the wound or made any recommendations about returning for further care, just "walked out". My Mom was still in tears one hour later....broke my heart. She is such a sweet gentle fragile woman. He was not the caring listener others have talked about, and I am very angry! I guess he just thought they were beneath him. I don't care who you are, you don't treat others like that...especially someone who is seeking you advice of life threatening issues. Shame on you Dr. Somers.
