Awful customer service; terrible experience 11/3/2007

My husband and I have never had such a negative experience with a company. We bought 2 end tables, a coffee table and a sleeper sofa from this merchant in May 2006. It took until June of 2007 to resolve this issue. We knew the coffee table was damaged when we bought it, but the end tables were in good shape. We got a great deal on the table set because the coffee table was broken. The sleeper sofa was supposed to have a seally mattress in it, but we couldn't see it because the show room was too full to open the bed up. We loved the look of it and bought it anyway for a great price. We got it home and when we opened it up, it had a cheap foam mattress in it and the "leather" wasn't real. We should have looked at it more closely. Also, one of the wooden braces inside the sofa was broken and the bed frame wouldn't lay flat. It looked like a stretched out accordion. We laid on it and couldn't image a guest sleeping on it. We called immediately and told them we wanted to return it. The manager said all sales were final. We didn't see anything in the store that said this and argued with him. We just took it back to the store and refused to leave until the man took it back. He gave us a store credit finally. I told him I wanted to see a bedroom set I liked on the online store and he said just let him know and he'd have it brought to the showroom so I could see it in person. A week later I called to see if he could bring in an end table and headboard and he refused. He started raising his voice and was very rude. It was a bait and switch. He gave us an in store credit but treated us horribly when we tried to spend it. After arguing with him repeatedly, we finally tried going through the BBB. They were NO HELP at all. It became a he said she said thing. However, we had kept all our receipts and the in store credit the manager signed. We had to go through our credit card company to get our money back because the man was so unreasonable. On several occasions he got so mad he was red in the face and screaming at us. It was an awful experience and I was worried about having any future dealings with him. We got all of our money back including the money for the tables. We tried to call the store to pay the amount we owed them for the tables and they kept telling us we owed them more than what we originally paid for them. We told them we'd pay the difference between the original sales receipt and the in store credit. They said that was too little. We finally stopped trying to pay after they changed the amount 3 times. Then they charged our credit card to over $300 dollars 6 months after the sale. We did not authorize this charge! We had to go through our credit card company again to get our money back. We finally just sent them a certified check for the amount we felt we owed them and they finally cashed it this summer. We received several threatening voicemail messages as well as letters during this time. The owner was threatening to sue us and call our employer. It was an awful experience and I would stay far away from this store. Only buy what you are absolutely sure you want to keep and keep in mind that all sales are final and that the manager isn't a reasonable person to deal with. It's his way are the highway as he kindly told us in one of his "fits". Buy here at your own risk. more
