I've wanted to try the food at Tilth for months - ever since I started reading about it. I've only heard good things from friends who have eaten there, but I was very disappointed. My boyfriend and I decided to try it last Sunday for my birthday brunch. I figured if there is any day I won't feel guilty spending $12 on scrambled eggs (or having my boyfriend spend $12 on scrambled eggs) it's my birthday. So we went...
The service was some of the worst I've ever experienced - there were only about four tables seated the entire time we were there, and yet, the server disappeared for TWENTY minutes before taking our order. Even then, the order was wrong (!) - I ordered the truffled scrambled eggs, he brought a two egg breakfast with sausage (huh?). He apologized and put my correct order in, only to bring it out wrong again (!!!) - this time it was just the toast (wheat instead of white), but he had literally asked me what kind of toast I wanted four times. We also ordered the $8 bloody marys, which were almost undrinkable. They make their own tomato juice with no salt or something, and they didn't seem to use any other flavorings (or vodka, that I could tell). I had to spoon salt into it (nope, no salt at all!) just to drink it. The woman who made them asked how they were and I said (trying to be nice) that they could have used some salt, to which she replied "yeah, we lost our salt thing". What does that mean? Why were they still making them?
The food, itself, was fine, but terribly overpriced. My boyfriend got the salmon hash, which was good, but not spectacular, and I got the truffled scrambled eggs (good, but smallish portion and not worth $12).
I just don't know what was going on that morning. Another table had to flag the waiter down to get a coffee refill - AND had to point out the coffee pot to him when he couldn't seem to find it. Very strange.
