Mongolian Grill

Am I the only one that doesn't get it 6/22/2007

Went to Mongolian Grill, understand the concept and all. We sit down, put our ingredients together, walk over to the grill, have the cook heat everything up and mix it, and we sit down and eat it. The realization at our table was almost simultaneous. We just basically paid to make our own food, and it tasted that way. While on face value, the concept is different and interesting, that's about all it is. Ultimately I go out to eat because the flavor and knowledge of the cooks in restaurants trumps my own cooking at home. So why exactly are we paying money to put together our own ingredients, which ultimately end up tasting like something I cooked at home since I put it together? Granted they have pre-selected mixtures, but when I pay to eat a restaurant, I'm asking someone to take their knowledge and make me a great dish, not for me to decide the recipe and have it tasting like home cooked food. more
