Almost everyone is suffering with this heat wave going around. Here in Oklahoma, we have gone thirty days with over 100 degree temperatures... ugh!
I live in an apartment, and the maintenance men were unable to get my air conditioner to go below 79 degrees. It is all bills paid, so I had to get permission to purchase a window unit, which was granted.
I headed, immediately, to Walmart and shelled out a hundred bucks for a small window unit. Less than a week later, I noticed I had been sick, and it was extremely hot in here. My son looked at the air conditioner and told me it was frozen, which was why it was not blowing any air.
For me, a hundred bucks is no small thing. I was irate! Of course, it was late at night, so the customer service department was closed at both of our local Walmarts. I called the store where I purchased the unit first. They directed me to a customer service manager, who said if I was exchanging it for the exact same model, he would do it for me. I drove down there, and, wouldn't you know it? They had none in stock. They called the other store across town, explained the situation, and were told that the other store had plenty.
So, late at night, I drive all the way across town, with this heavy unit. We walked in the front door, and immediately, were stopped by the greeter. The greeter told us we may as well turn around, because they would not do anything for us, with the customer service department being closed. I explained the situation nicely, and asked to speak to the customer service manager. The greeter refused to let me see the manager, telling us, again, that they would do nothing for us! I got angry, and another employee noticed and came over. She, at least, went and got the manager for me.
I started explaining the situation to the manager, who, at first, was very hateful... I assume because I had gotten angry with the greeter. She told me she would not exchange the air conditioner without the box it came in. I, again, showed her the receipt, proving that it had been less than a week since I purchased the unit, and explained that I did not keep the box, because I assumed the stupid thing would work!
After a lot of fighting, I finally got the air conditioner exchanged. Yes, I understand that they have rules, but I also expect them to stand behind their products, especially when someone has paid that much money. I would have been upset, but would have returned the following morning to deal with customer service... but... the entire thing became a struggle over the way I was being treated, I just was not going to stand for it.
To sum things up, I did get my air conditioner exchanged... but, I will never go to that store to spend my money, simply because I cannot get over the way they were so rude!
