The Norman Health Department is very impressive, compared to many I have been in. They have a nice, open building, with plenty of space for comfortable seating, and areas for the children to play while you are waiting.
The Health Department serves many purposes. They offer a free family planning clinic, where one can get free birth control supplies and information, and even prenatal care in some instances.
The Health Department also offers free immunizations to children in the area. They will keep track of all of your childrens' immunizations, so you can easily access them and get copies for enrolling them in school, etc. They also offer free flu and pnumonia shots to those at high risk, and at times to anyone in the public. The wait time can be pretty long, but it definitely saves money, and you know that you will be getting your shots in a healthy, sanitary environment, by their trained nursing staff.
The Health Department offers too many services to list. I think people often take for granted that they are there, but often don't even realize how much they really do for the residents of our community. If you are in need of health information, a food handler's license, whatever your need may be... give them a call, and chances are they can help. If not, they will refer you to someone who can!
