I am a former member of World Gym, and I am here to advise that if you are a younger (particularly male)person looking to work out or play ball at World Gym, prepare to possibly be looked at with animosity, and possibly addressed the same way. I was a member of the gym for three years, and came in during the week after work, with a shirt and tie on. Was never given a problem by the staff when I came in with that attire. But it was the times when I came in dressed differently, or tried to bring in some of my younger friends to work out with me, that we would receive negativity from the staff (particularly the evening manager, whom i believe is the owner as well). My friends would be overcharged to utilize the facility ($10, as opposed to the $7 charge a week before when I brought my GIRLfriend in with me). Once we were in the facility, we were constantly harassed by the same individual to "move along", keep out of the lobby, etc. Mind you I have witnessed firsthand other "demographic groups" engaging in the same activities while in the center, but they are not given as much as a glance.
My situation came to a head this week when I engaged in conversation with another individual whom was outside the center, within vision of the night manager. apparently (and unknown to me) the individual I was talking to -who asked me a question- was not allowed into the gym b/c of a previous situation. He needed to connect with one of his friends inside the gym. When I asked the front counter person if he could do so (again, unaware of what was going on, so asking questions to find out) the manager/counter person immediately became irate with me and snapped at me. I managed to ignore his initial rant, and went back to speak with the individual outside, whom asked me to find his friend for him. Once I returned inside, the manager/counter person continued his diatribe against me, w/o provocation. He proceeded to address me in a very disrespectful and sarcastic manner. I was engaged in a back-and-forth discussion with him as a result of that, b/c I wanted to stress to him that he did not need to be so disrespectful to me. The manager immediately - again, w/o provocation- said that "since I don't like it, how about we cancel your membership". I found it very strange that he would result to this tactic to conclude an argument that he started. My relationship with World Gym ended there, as I agreed that we do so.
I understand this review is pretty long, but I could not go on without telling people about how disrespectful that the Owner/night manager of World Gym is to younger, urban clientèle. Please find a reasonable workout alternative if you fit this demographic.
