My husband and I recently returned from Italy which was our first trip to Europe. We booked the 9 day tour with Fidalgo Travel and had a wonderful time. The tour director, local tour guides and our bus driver for the week were superb. We couldn't imagine any other tour operator with better guides. The only minor complaint we had was with the location of the hotels in Rome, Florence and Venice. They seemed a little out of the way of the main attractions in each city. Even thought the rooms were much smaller than hotels in the US, they were clean and comfortable. I strongly recommend taking most of the optional tours that are offered by Fidalgo Travel since we found that not speaking Italian was a problem, hence so was transportation. We found the prices to be fair since all included a dinner. We highly recommend the optional dinner in the Tuscan hills the second night in Florence. The food was very good, the wine was great and the scenery was beautiful (we ate outdoors). It was a perfect evening! There is local entertainment at all dinners. The restaurants in Rome and Venice that were part of optional tours were good but not great. However, these tours made it much easier to get around the cities after a tiring day of sightseeing and walking everywhere! The last night in Rome optional tour was lovely. The restaurant was good, the wine flowed, everyone had a great time and seeing the sights at night was just incredible. There are advantages to taking an escorted tour, especially getting into the Vatican a hour before the regular crowds, having all museum tickets purchased ahead of time by the tour guides, and of course the comfortable air-conditioned buses. Our tour guide in Rome, Stefano, was very knowledgeable and we could not imagine seeing the sights without him. Our tour director, Concetta, was equally knowledgeable and regaled us with stories and information on the long bus rides. She did a fantastic job of conducting our tour and took care of the group very well. I would highly recommend Globus to anyone and we will definitely use them again on our next vacation. Viva Italia!
