We sat at the station going through and restocking the unit. The area I ran was the biggest area in Knoxville. It was around 12 am on a saturday night and we were dispatched to the north side of town in corryington. A possible gunshot to the head. We were almost at the Union county line. The weather was very stormy and foggy Lifestar was grounded. The response time was around 25 minutes. We pulled up to the house and there were people everywhere. The was a big party at this house. they led us upstairs to the back bedroom. We found one male in his twentys with a GSW to the head. The gun was still laying next to his head on the floor. He was only breathing 2-4 times a minute. I tried to intubate the patient but his airway was full of chili and vomit. We began to the hospital I had a friend of mine on board that night that was a neuro-nurse. When I got the patient finally intubated and the nurse ventilated him. By the time we got this patient to the ER he appeared brain dead.Everyone had give up on him.......Two months later the patient called me and called me his hero.
