Louis Boston

Too bad the service is so awful... 11/12/2006

Otherwise I would shop there more often. I usually go to Louis just to see what's happening in fashion. They have a lot of independent brands, many for which they are the sole stockist in Boston (e.g. Mayle, Zero Maria Cornejo). Louis has the best Dries Van Noten and Marni selection by far, and I love their quirkier labels like Annelore, but the service is really terrible. Whenever I go to Louis, the girls glance over, recognize me from previous shopping trips, and then move as far away from me as possible. It's like this intricate dance where they manage to maintain the same amount of distance from me no matter where I am in the store. Once I had to search high and low for someone to let me in the dressing room. And then, when I came out for a second opinion, no one was there. I had to tiptoe to the cashier to ask for someone to call up a seamstress. Even when they knew I was buying the dress, they were still cold to me. In the past three years, I have bought 5 things from them. This may not seem like a lot, but when the cheapest thing I've bought was $200, you would think they'd be nicer. I guess I'm still not wealthy enough for these girls to be more than nominally helpful. I highly recommend waiting for their twice yearly sale (Jan. and July) when everything is 50% off. In the mad rush for clothes, you won't even notice that the salesgirls are ignoring you. more
