pâtisseries exquises 10/22/2006

This weekend I walked into a quaint, charming little shop in Portland, OR, called Pix Pâtisserie. This place delighted the senses with its atmosphere as well as the artfully crafted mouth-watering goodies. We tried a cream puff filled with Grand Marnier and vanilla crème chantilly glazed with crystallized sugar; a hazelnut buttercream with chocolate ganache cake; my favorite of the bunch is an orange vanilla crème brûlée layered on chocolate mousse caramelized hazelnuts, praline crisp all wrapped in a bittersweet dark chocolate coat (you can taste the individual elements as you took a bite into the pastry and they compliment each other very nicely); we washed it all down with a beer float (yes, real hoppy beer). For the long ride back to Washington we decided to take home a truffle cake. We are eager to try this tomorrow with a nice dollop of ice cream. Yummmmm… I especially enjoyed the selections because they were not overtly sweet. A gem of this place was also Michael Rockstar, he took care of us while we were there. I am now on a quest to find comparable pâtisseries in Washington. Recommendations welcome =) more
