Compared to the other restaurants in Chinatown, Shiao Lan Kung is a bit pricey. However, compared to the prices elsewhere in Center City, I'd say that it is a decent value. The dining room is small. Even in the early evening on a weekday will there be customers. The staff are okay, but not especially helpful. The food is why you'd come here. The salt-baked squid is good. However, the seafood hot pot is just so-so. I'd say this is better than Imperial Inn. But I wouldn't wait all night to get in. The food is not to die for. Yet the newspapers seem to love this place- on the wall I saw articles from years back with glowing reviews of their food. Personally I'm not adventurous enough to try frog legs, though.
