change orders, incomplete work, poor planning, not close to schedule 10/10/2006

I would not recommend CEE-RON or Aaron Thompson (President). I hired CEE-RON to do a full house renovation (~$200K) I had a positive experience with the salesman who provided a very thorough detailed estimate giving me the comfort that they had thoroughly and accurately estimated the work. The contract was to start within 30 days and complete within 6 months. CEE-RON didn't start until 75 days after contract signing and didn't even complete the rough-in in 6 months. Once the contract was turned over from the salesman to the project manager there was nothing but change orders (structural brick repair was 250% more than estimated, framing was 100% more than the, and CEE-RON wanted 25% more on the large addition at which point I stopped the process). I know contractors talk about change orders if something new is discovered but in these cases nothing was different than when the estimate was provided. In addition, CEE-RON did a poor job monitoring sub-contractors. CEE-RON allowed the plumber to pipe the house to drain into the basement only to later find out that the sewer line is not in the basement but in the back yard. CEE-RON representatives were very argumentative and do not have the ability to listen unless you are seeing things the way they see it which usually means taking the easy way out (more money / less work for them). CEE-RON representatives did not understand the code for the area where the property was located and on numerous occasions tried to talk the owner out of a particular feature because it would violate code but they could not site the code. CEE-RON project management would not create a schedule, regardless of repeated requests to do so. When walking the property with the owner, CEE-RON's project manager did not bring anything to take notes on, requiring additional rework and multiple walk throughs. CEE-RON representatives deviated from the plans. Sometimes it was due to their personal preference or lack of following the plan. Sometimes it was because of something that changed (unknown duct work in the way). In the case where things changed CEE-RON would let its subs/employees just make a call instead of contacting the owner for a consultation on how to change things. Think twice before hiring this company to do any renovations/repairs. more
