Toshi's in Northgate, since probably elementary school, has been my favorite place for teriyaki in the city. No other place has ever lived up to their fresh food, diversity of choices, and homey service. They say their secret is the fresh grilled meat and vegetables, but I think it's the fact that they've run a consistent, family-owned business for years. Try the meat skewers, or their sushi. You will be satisfied.
The son of the owner told us about that on September 11th, Toshi's was packed. He thinks it was because it's a place that people come back to year after year, and folks wanted a friendly and familiar place to go during the tragedy. I like that.
Don't expect anything hip or fancy: this isn't Blue C. But it is a consistent, tasty alternative for those seeking a good laid back meal. Also, don't get it confused with other Toshis' in the city: this one stands alone.
