My 6 year-old son had a gash on his leg and needed a couple of stitches. I won't detail the wait times, but we got there at 10pm and got out at 2am. The emergency room was nearly empty the whole time.
The "doctor" was the most inexperienced intern that I've ever met. The local anesthesia was not properly applied. And it probably wore off before this guy showed up again - after 1am. He started stitching and my son screamed in pain. He left the needle in the wound and tried to directly inject more anesthesia. My son was screaming his head off. The intern suggested that maybe my son was just a sissy (I don't think so - he takes his immunization shots without crying). The attending doc showed up but had no idea what was going on. The stitches were hastily done (they later came loose).
My pediatrician was appalled to hear the poor treatment my son received.
For this awful experience getting three stitches, I was billed hundreds of dollars.
