I went to an engagement dinner for Vee! Woohoo, that's my friend on my list. And the dinner was just well, that's just it. I ordered an appetizer and I didn't thoroughly read the description on the menu however I did notice it said "Peel and Eat Shrimp" : Old bay seasoning sprinkled pn some steamed shrimp and some red potatos, corn on the cob,....blah blah..".
I was thinking, "Hmm, that sounds good and healthy!". So, I get it. I asked the lady how much it was, and she said she didn't know and then added that it might be anywhere from $6.00 to $7.00 for the appetizer. I thought to myself: "Wow, hmmm....she works here and she doesn't even know the price of this appetizer that were ordering at the restaurant she is working at. That's phenominal!". Anyways, all 43 of us are all waiting patiently on our food for about 1 hr or so. It took 20 minutes to get a food order in.
I saw the Peel & Eat shrimp and it wasn't as I imagined, you know doused in seasoning. So I asked if we can return it and trade it with something esle. She said we can keep it, and get charged for it and the other appetizer we had preferred. I was in shock, and I was suprised my jaw didn't drop open with her answer. She was saying it all in a calm low toned voice and all. I mean, she wasn't assanine about it. She said we could do that or trade it with another gst in the group, and you know no one was going to do that. Anyways, that was that...we kept the dern thing.
Trust me, I was a waitress once too I know what it's like. However, either way you cannot continueously pass back and forth by your customers knowingly seeing that they're trying to get your attention and then ignore them....that is just bad service. So we let it slide because we're having a good time and spending it with friends. So we are patient the first few times and then it started to get ridiculous.
I did enjoy my white russian! I mean I had to ask them to put more Kahlua in it because Jessica's drink was like watery and it didn't have a lot of Kahlua in it. I mean, you pay so much for a drink downtown it's ridiculous. I don't see why people don't drink themselves under the table so to speak. lol. Anyways, I got the bar drink and it was actually good.
Then we FINALLY get our dinner an hour or so later. I was happy, sort of. lol. I guess I can be a picky eater. I mean the shrimp looked like someone dropped the old bay seasoning on it on accident and tried to make it look like it came from a chef's kitchen. Psh, right. The only thing I had from the appetizer was about 3 little squares of a red potato. That was good.
So I got the Turkey club, I wished at that point they had wheat bread because that's much more heathlier than that of white bread. But whatever, I was happy to get our food. As soon as I took a little bite my sandwich fell apart. I learned at that point it's okay to laugh at yourself. lol. I tasted the turkey and believe you me when I say it tasted like CRAP. lol. No offense, but it's the truth. That's one thing you cannot cover up is the truth.
Then, I took off all the cheese just because ...and I took two bites of a fry and omg. I wanted those fries so bad, they were actually very, very good. But I'm on a special meal plan to help me boost up my metabolisim, loose weight and gain muscle in a healthy way. So it's kind of difficult to eat out like everyone else, I'm automatically targeted as a picky eater either way. So who cares?!
So we are in the middle of eating and trying to talk to other friends or family members of our friends, the bride and groom. Then the bride looks over at me, and comes over to our table & advises us that as soon as we get our checks we have to go to the bar. Reason being, because a birthday party is being set-up at 8pm in the same dinning hall we were in. We got there at 5:45, we passed the place twice. Not to mention everyone else was there at 5:15pm-5:30pm to get started on drinking plus there were widescreen t.v's in the room so automatically they want to watch the game and have some beers.
They tell Vee that the other party is waiting in the other room but we wait about 30 to 45 minutes just to get our checks. However they advised her of this 3 days prior to the Engagement Dinner. In which she made months in advance. How ridiculous right?! Anyways, we all got one free alcoholic beverage out of it. Which was awesome. Then we all talked some more. The bar area was expected to be a huge sausage fest, and it was. We all enjoyed getting to meet one another and have a good time getting to know each other. Their families are just awesome and very friendly people. The Restaurant on the other hand...well, it wasn't the best. It was okay, could've been better.
Just remember: Research, research, research!
