I tried this place out after reading the review here and I must say, after 3 years of searching, I think I've found my hair place.
Making an appointment over the phone was a pleasant experience. The woman I talked to was very personable and she intro'd herself when I arrived for my appointment. (I made an appt for a haircut and eyebrow wax.)
I arrived for my appt on a Saturday and right away, I was able to get my eyebrows done by Angelica. She's another very personable member of the staff. I say personable because she was very verbal (compared to others of my experience) -- she told me exactly what she was doing so I wasn't surprised when she zipped me clean. I felt pretty relaxed when I walked in, and when I met her, I felt like I was in good hands. She did a great job on my eyebrows -- my face felt lighter immediately!
Since moving to South Florida getting my hair cut has been a stressful experience for me because hair stylists won't take me seriously when I say I want my hair short. It's rare to find someone who's not only willing to use a razor on my hair, but also to wield it with authority. Well, Debbi at Fantasia performed some serious ninja razor action on my hair, and it was EXACTLY what I wanted. I didn't have to do anything but tell her what sort of look I was after -- something short, full of texture, jaggedy, edgey, with some spike potential. She immediately grokked what I was talking about and went to town. When she finished, I was ecstatic -- FINALLY, someone understood what I wanted and had the talent and passion to make it happen. I'm definitely going back to her!
They also do kids' hair, which is good to know. My 8yo daughter likes going to Cartoon Kutz down by the mall, but I'll take her to Fantasia when she's ready to go beyond the simple long bob she's got now. While I was getting my stuff done, however, they were more than happy to give my daughter their "little princess" manicure ($9). She loved it!
The salon in general is quite well-organized and very clean. The staff is friendly and confident which I found rather comforting. My appt was on a Saturday, so the salon was bustling. I had to wait a little bit to get my hair washed since there were a few ahead of me. Even so, things moved very quickly and efficiently and in a minute or so, I had my hair washed (and washed attentively) and was ready to get it cut. No one hurried me along at any point in my appt, and no one looked like they'd rather be somewhere else. That in itself was most refreshing.
Parking at Fantasia can be a little dicey -- definitely get there ahead of time to make sure you get a spot. TooJay's Deli is in the same building, and that place could fill the entire lot by itself. Luckily, I was able to find a spot relatively close by. Nice thing about the location, there are some decent restaurants near so you can have a nice lunch afterward.
