My husband is a 'raw fish' kind of guy - I don't enjoy sushi or sashimi at all, not the taste nor the texture. This as led to more than a few disagreements on where to eat in Reno, but we seem to have found a very nice restaurant that pleases us both - Kyoto Restaurant at 915 W. Moana.
The restuarant is tucked in among some non-descript strip mall stores, but it's a surprisingly elegant and inexpensive place to indulge your passion for Japanese Food.
The interior is very attractive, almost elegant with a classy modern & understated white, black and grey color theme. Service is very good, with attentive but not overbearing wait people.
My husband loves the sushi and sashimi (I will take his word on this thank you) but while he eats all that squishy stuff, I usually order the Pork Tan Katsu, or Shrimp Tempura. The Pork Tan katsu is basically a breaded boneless pork steak covered with a gravy that tastes an awful lot like worcestershire sauce - but I love it! The tempura is fresh and delicately battered; I don't much like the mixed tempura as it includes too many vegetables for my tastes and not enough shrimp.
Prices are quite reasonable - typically $10-14 per entree, there's a nice selection of interesting Sake's and Japanese Beers.
I strongly suggest you try Kyoto, it's among the best Japanese food I have had in Nevada or California.
