Kick back, relax, and enjoy. Rave for Rascals!
My wife and I wanted a nice evening away from the kids tonight. I thought to take her to a restaurant owned by an acquaintance. It was a "Bar and Grill" - so, I expected that we could catch a good burger, a couple of drinks, and relax. When we arrived there, we found that it was a bar, and little more. "Do you have food?"
A bar and grill with no food? That's... special.
We left immediately, and I spontaneously remembered that a restaurant under new proprietorship had opened near the Rockford Speedway. It was also a "Bar and Grill". When I invited my wife to get out of the car.. "let's eat!" She replied, "are you sure?"
We were not disappointed.
We arrived a little after 7:30 pm. There was a small crowd already gathered. It was relatively quiet, but a ball game was on the beautiful, large flat-screen televisions, and the ketchup bottles on the tables announced that we were going to eat food here!
Drink menus were on the tables. After a short wait (it was a relaxed atmosphere), a nice lady brought us dinner menus. Snack, lunch and dinner selections were nicely varied and I immediately migrated to the selection of burgers. My wife and I both had burgers. They were awesome. Flame cooked Angus beef - primo quality, very hot. I can't say anything bad about them. Sides were good. I appreciate that you are not compelled to have french fries as a side (there are more healthy alternatives) Presentation was great. My wife had a few big Margarita's. Everything was fantastic.
The place has an understated theme borrowing from the Little Rascals. Clever menu items were the He Man Women Hater's Burger (a full pound of beef), and Petie's Pizza. The Drinks menu was impressive with a large selection of beers.
LEIGH was our server. She was completely confident in her work, quick to fill up my glass, appropriately on-hand, but not brooding over our table. Clean, pleasant, and helpful. Top kudos from me - the boss should do everything he can to keep her.
The party atmosphere picked up a little before 9 o'clock. There are two Arachnid dart boards, one pool table. They advertise occasional live music. The place is CLEAN and WELL LIGHTED and has a pleasant variety of clientèle. I don't know who wouldn't feed comfortable in this place (maybe an antisocial psychopath?). Maybe some sofa seating might be a nice addition?
For a great burger in a relaxed atmosphere with a come-as-you are open door to all kinds, this place gets four and a half out of five stars from me.
