Whispering Canyon Cafe Wilderness Lodge, Walt Disney World 10/3/2006

We decided to eat here Friday night. It should have clicked in our minds when we booked the reservation & it was a Friday Night, Holiday weekend. This place was packed. They had our reservation, so no problem. Or so I thought! Walking in & seeing both kids & wait staff riding stick ponies, some waiters encouraging kids to blow bubbles in their milk, a waiter with straws sticking out of his ears, while this was fun, it was not something I wanted to deal with. Don't get me wrong I love the Wispering Canyon & The PrimeTime 50's at MGM, since the wait staff at both are interactive with the restaurant guests and it is quite fun. But this however was above & way beyond that & what I have normally see here in the past! I was surprised at the chaos given the time of 9:30PM. It was like a huge party! LOL!! We had a very good meal here anyway! Hard to believe as that would seem! ;-) They feature the "Canyon Skillet. This is listed on the menu as "All You Care To Eat" for $22.49 per person. All you care to eat can be huge amount for one person and not so much for another so keep this in mind. This is what the Canyon Skillet serves- mixed greens with apple vinaigrette dressing, fresh baked corn bread, smoked pork ribs, pulled pork, oven-roasted chicken, pork sausage, Yukon Gold mashed potatoes, beans, and corn on the cob & creamy cole slaw. Looked good, and the portions were huge! That was way too much food for us since it was 9:00pm so we opted for: Meatloaf served with gravy Yukon Gold mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables ($16.49) for my husband. And- Grilled Chicken Pasta, penne and fresh vegetables tossed with Roasted Garlic Chipotle Cream Sauce ($17.49) for me. Thankfully our orders arrived quickly. The food was very good. Tasted like it was just made I was suprised at how good the meals were! (As in the past the food was just okay) Now that I think about it everyone else was playing games & drawing, running pony races or just watching what was going on. I swear us & the couple next to us were the only one's eating dinner!! LOL! the last few times we ate here the atmosphere was not as lively! As I said this place to me seemed like a party room!! After dinner we ordered our favorite Kahlua flavored Chocolate Cake with chocolate mousse filling and fudge ganache icing as if that is not enough it is served with chocolate sauce whipped cream & a cherry $5.19! This is a chocolate-lovers dream!! And each had a cup of decaf coffee, while we shared the dessert. Good food, fun place for kids, adults it is wait staff interactive, remember they may be more interactive one time then the next! more
