Centolire is located on a quiet block of Madison Avenue, between 85th and 86th street. The decor is pleasant, as are the seats and restaurant layout. If you sit by a window, you have a view of Madison and 86th street from the 2nd floor. (Definitely sit upstairs if you can.)
Most food is excellent - grilled calamari, try the Centolire salad if they have it as a special. Fettucini carbonara is cooked by your table. I had pasta with meatballs, peas and carrots, and was disappointed to find that the meatballs were overcooked.
THe dessert souffles are EXCELLENT - try the ricotta and honey if it's offered. (You need to order them at the same time as your meal so they have time to cook.)
Big problem was very slow service - perhaps it was because we were too tucked away, in a corner, and there was a big party at the other end of the restaurant, but we were a bit ignored, and had a 45-minute wait for our appetizers.
