I just enjoyed a nice evening at Waterfront Ale House. They have a good menu, ranging from sandwiches, salads and soups to big entrées and BBQ. I had the half rack of ribs. It came with DELICIOUS sweet potato fries and coleslaw, as well as a large side salad. The entire meal was 15 bucks which considering all the food you get, a great deal in this area.
The sauce was great smoky flavor and not too spicy, but the meat was pretty heavy on fat and did not come off the bones cleanly. My date had the BBQ chicken and he reported that it was "nice" but nothing to write home about. Service was fast and attentive, and when you first sit down you get a bowl of spiced popcorn - with a Cajun style spice. Very good, but don't fill up on it or you won't have room for the rest of your meal!
Next time I will probably try another menu item and not hang my hopes on the BBQ, but I would go to Waterfront again. The place got busier as the night continued, and the bar area was full of sports fans. This definitely is a locals hangout, so if you want to eat where the real New Yorkers go, avoid Times Square, and come here!
