Bad experiences, good prices and damage control 4/12/2006

I have had a number of bad experiences with this Circuit City, yet I keep going back. Why? 1) They have really good sales/deals. I do a lot of comparison shopping before I make major purchases, and Circuit City often comes out ahead on electronics, computers and cameras. 2) When they do mess up, the managers know how to compensate you to make things okay again. For instance, about 7 or 8 months ago, I found a computer I wanted to buy, and they had the best price at Circuit City. Purchased it, but not in stock. Checked receipt that night and incorrect (more expensive) upgrades scanned in. Called the next day (ate up about an hour of my time). Manager apologized and gave me the more expensive upgrades for the cost of the less expensive one. Computer was late being delivered to Circuit City by several days, then finally arrived. Went and picked it up. Took it home, and it was the wrong thing. Took it back. Customer service found my correct computer, but it had the wrong memory installed in it. Computer technicians opened it up and installed new memory. They installed a different wrong memory. Started over again. Manager apologizes and gives me memory upgrade for free. One week and a pain in the neck later we finally had the correct computer with all its upgrades and we saved quite a bit of money in the process. So good luck with Circuit City. Mixed bag. Make sure to a) check your receipts, b) be persistent, and c) make sure you leave with the correct goods. Ask to talk to a manager if you need to, too. Oh, and on an unrelated note: if you go to their day after Thanksgiving sale, get there at least an hour early or be prepared for a loooong line (and potential disappointment)! more
